Rebecca Se-Hee Fillers, 36, passed away on March 10, 2021, after a 12-year battle with cancer.  She is survived by her parents, David and Linda Fillers, who are taking comfort in knowing she is now with the Lord and is no longer suffering with the cancer pain.

Rebecca is also survived by her Uncle Fred and Aunt Gail Fillers, of Oak Ridge, TN, cousin Virginia Fillers, of Cookeville, TN, and cousin Kevin (Katie) Fillers of Knoxville, TN, all of whom she loved to visit whenever possible.  She had many friends from school, work, and church whom she loved. Her cats were her constant companions when she was at home, especially Howie, who greatly misses “his girl”.

Rebecca was a 2002 graduate of Fairport High School, earned an associate’s degree in business from MCC, and attended the University at Buffalo.  She loved music and singing and was a member of the choir at Pittsford Community Church.  She was a University of Tennessee sports fan, NFL fan (especially if the Mannings were playing), NASCAR fan, and enjoyed watching Olympic sports.  She also loved traveling and seeing new places, especially if it involved visiting those she loved, both friends and family.  These interests often came together with trips to Tennessee to attend UT basketball or football games with her cousins,  a trip to Denver to see the Broncos (also with cousins), and  going  with a friend to NYC for a Broadway musical.  Trips to the beach with friends made some of her favorite memories.

Over the years Rebecca participated in Camp Chin-Gu to learn about her Korean heritage, was blessed with a trip to Disney World with Camp Good Days and Special Times and attended CancerCon (Stupid Cancer Inc.’s program/convention for young adults with cancer).

Special thanks go to Rebecca’s doctors at URMC, Wilmot Cancer Institute, and the wonderful staff at the Sussman Palliative Care/Hospice unit at Strong Memorial Hospital.  Over the past 12 years these dedicated people became friends as well as medical providers.

A graveside service will be held at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Fairport, on Saturday, April 10 at 2:00 p.m.

Contributions in Rebecca’s honor may be made to Wilmot Cancer Institute.

To me Rebecca was like one of my own kids. I loved her and her very cute personality. I’ve never known anyone to have handled cancer as gracefully as she did never seeming bitter about her diagnosis. I will always treasure times of laughter, her quick wit, and sweet smile. David and Linda, we’ll always be there for you both.

Rebecca and I went to school together and were in the same graduating class. I will always remember Rebecca’s wit and intelligence. She was one of the smartest of us all and always seemed to be ahead of the curve. The world and all of us who knew her will feel her loss.

    Dave and Linda,
My most sincere thoughts and prayers go out to both of you. You guys (including Rebecca) were like family to me and my own little family when we lived out there. Thank you for all of your support and love. I truly appreciate it and I hope that in this trying time that you can remain close to God, knowing he loves us and knows all of us, our sadness, our pains, even our happiness and joys. He is there to comfort us and bear us up when we are not sure we can. He knows and loves your daughter Rebecca and I am sure is mindful of her as well at this time. I love the lyrics of the hymn “The Lord Bless You and Keep You”! Adding the lyrics was too long for this post but here is a link to a great version. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QcYzO8Y4PH0

Dear Linda & Dave, I am so sorry for your loss. It has been years since we’ve all last spoke but Rebecca was one of the sweetest humans I’ve met even with everything she was dealing with. Always so giving with her time and really listened when you had a conversation with her. She was kind and loving and strong and will be greatly missed here. Some of my happiest memories were church plays and youth trips and she was in all of them. I am glad that she is no longer in pain but I know she will always be missed by you and all who loved her. Much love sent your way.
