Jean Larsen Hessney passed away peacefully surrounded by family on April 3, 2021 at 59 after a courageous multi-year battle with cancer.  Jean was born on April 18, 1961 in Rochester.  Jean is survived by Larry, her loving husband of 35 years, daughter Emily Hessney Lynch (Tim), son Thomas, brother Robert Larsen (Lori) and many relatives and friends.  She is predeceased by her parents Warren and Iva Larsen. Jean and Iva are sure to be talking up a storm in heaven right now.

Jean graduated from Gates-Chili and Penn State.  She worked in accounting for General Motors for 7 years before becoming a full-time mother.  Jean made many, many friends everywhere she went, they all loved her smile and sharing a good laugh.  Jean was an avid tennis player and an active volunteer.  She made a lasting impact at Perinton Presbyterian Church, One World Goods, Pittsford Schools and several other organizations.  Jean was devoted to her family, which was her pride and joy.  Jean loved many family travel adventures including memorable trips to New Zealand, Australia, the Philippines (to adopt Tommy), Costa Rica, Europe, all the National Parks and Isle of Palms, SC, a favorite place.   She especially loved spending time at our cottage at Farley’s Point on Cayuga Lake and later at our house in The Villages, FL.  Jean’s true best friend was Taffy, her devoted cockapoo doggie, who passed in May 2020.  She kept being a devoted dog lover with Roxy our 12 year old Shih Tzu and Buddy, who we rescued in Florida in June 2020.

The family would like to give special thanks to the Wilmot Cancer Center, UR Home Care and the Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa, all of whom provided loving care for Jean during the last few years.

I was so very sad to hear of Jean’s passing. We played winter tennis together at TCR (pre-Covid) and she was such a warm, caring, wonderful person. Thoughts and prayers to everyone.

So very sorry to hear of Jean’s passing. She will now join my litany of saints whom I pray to regularly for support. Jean was always very kind and sweet to me at Park Road School and I lit up whenever I saw her working in the office. Thank you Jean for all your love and kindness!

I am so sorry to hear of Jean’s passing. Our paths crossed in several ways – through our children, working in the Pittsford Schools and tennis (of course)! I always enjoyed our competitive tennis matches and catching up on the kids. I will miss those games, those chats and all the fun and her sunny disposition. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

I am so very sorry to hear of Jean’s passing,. I will truly miss running into her around town; we often crossed paths. We faced each other frequently on the tennis court and Jean always seemed to end up on the winning side! She was a fun person to spend time with. My thoughts and prayers are with all who loved her.

I loved having Jean in my classroom to help or seeing her in the office at Park Road. What a great sense of humor.
