John S. Kettle (September 18, 1946- September 21, 2021) died as he lived, surrounded by family and love. He was 75 years old.
John is predeceased by his parents, J. Sprague and Martha (Rathbun) Kettle and his sister, Marlene K. Weyand.
John is survived by his partner in life and in golf, Cheryl Leadbeter, daughters Stephanie (Luke) Emerson and Laurie (Michael) Kettle-Rivera, his five most favorite people in the world: grandchildren Jack, Sam, Jayson, Will and Kayley, brother Ronald (Earlene) Kettle, sister Geraldine A. Brown, and several nieces and nephews.
John proudly served in the United States Army and the Vietnam War as a Communications Sergeant with the Headquarters Troop, 1st Squadron, 9th Cavalry. He was a lifelong member of the Albion Elks Lodge and the American Legion.
John’s professional career focused on business administration through the roles of President, Vice President, and Chief Financial Officer of several banking institutions including Dime Banking and Loan, Anchor Savings Bank, Albion Federal, First Niagara, and Fairport Savings Bank. He retired from Thaney and Associates in 2016. John’s proudest professional moment was building a mortgage servicing center in Albion which brought hundreds of jobs to the area where he grew up and lived.
John was a lifetime sports lover, and faithfully rooted for the St. Louis Cardinals, Buffalo Bills, and Syracuse University Basketball. John was also an amazing athlete in his own right; he had eight holes in one throughout his life as a golfer, and was recognized by the American Bowling Congress for a perfect 300 game and 801 series.
As we remember John, we remember he was always the life of the party, and the consummate master of ceremonies. To know him was to love him, and every person he met can tell you a hysterical story about John. His sense of humor and love of life will be sorely missed.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 29, 2021 from 2:00-5:00pm at the Richard H. Keenan Funeral Home (Egypt Location) 7501 Pittsford Palmyra Road, Fairport, NY. Private family burial will be held at Mt. Albion Cemetery.

John will remain forever in our hearts and we will miss him dearly. He was a role model for all of us in how he handled the past 12 months.
Many good memories from many years ago (60’s to 90’s) in Albion. Rest in Peace.
I don’t usually comment on theses sites but this was too much of a shock to not say something. I have chosen to continue working at 74 and I mention this because after working 60 years John was the best and fairest boss that I ever had! He taught me so much about managing people fairly but firmly that I was eventually able to build my own successful business. I was so comfortable working for John that while doing so he became as good and a trusted friend as a man could want! This loss really hurts and my condolences to his family as I am sure it has hit them hard.
God Bless You and Rest In Peace my GOOD FRIEND! ??

My most sincere condolence to the loving family and many friends that John held dear in his amazing lifetime. In our 20+ years in banking, together, An important cog in my professional, as well as my personal growth, John hired me twice to join his team in an administrative role. Those years were among the best, John certainly knew the true value that hard work would produce, and, made it fun as well as rewarding in the process. May you rest in peace, my dear friend.

I’m so sorry to hear about John’s passing. Although we only crossed paths a few times we enjoyed trading “first cousin” stories. Rest in Peace John.
John was my classmate in the Albion high school class of 1964. I didn’t keep up with him but enjoyed hearing of his endeavors and visiting at a few reunions. The most important part of John is what a great guy he was in our youth and that those talents endured throughout his life. Rest In Peace John “Pot”.
So sad to hear of John’s passing. Played golf with him at least once a year & it was always an eventful round, glad i have those memories. A great person to be a round & know. My best to Cheryl, Stephanie & Laurie, John will be missed, but remembered for ever. RIP
I am very sorry to learn of John’s passing. I had the good fortune of working with him at 3 banks; as an Anchor Banker when he and Carm Morabito hired me, at Albion Federal where we worked together for 5 years and at Fairport Savings where again we were co-workers for 5 years. I learned so much about banking from him! Most of all, I could always count on John for his guidance, friendship and of sense of humor. My deepest sympathies to his entire family.
My deepest sympathies for John’s family. John was kind and always fun to be around. So many great memories at golf tournaments or at the Elks Club.
My sincere condolences to John’s family on his passing. A fellow 1964 classmate and a sincere, kind and wonderful friend. I will miss him.
