Thelma A. (Gardiner) Mix (1925-2021)
Thelma passed away Oct. 4, 2021 at Strong Memorial Hospital. Thelma was predeceased by her sister Elaine, brother Theodore, husband Percy (a.k.a. Tom) and their first son Steven. She is survived by sons David (Nancy) and Brian, as well as 4 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
Thelma was devoted to both God and family. Her love of God supported her through many good times as well as some trying times throughout her life. Thelma and Tom traveled and worked up & down the east coast, using their home in Pennsylvania as a home base, later they settled in Middleport NY until Tom’s death in 1985. Thelma then moved to Honeoye Lake where she was a snowbird, traveling back and forth between New York and Florida.
Thelma loved the lake and watching the birds at the feeders, and liked nothing better than to have friends and family come and visit and enjoy the lake as much as she did.
Thelma requested no viewing or big ceremony upon her death but there will be a grave-side remembrance at 12:00 on Oct. 16, 2021 at the Bell Run Union Church cemetery in Shinglehouse PA.

I met Thelma 50 years ago when I was just 19. Thelma was the kindest & truly the most Christian person I’ve ever known. She didn’t preach at you, she lived her faith. Her actions throughout her life gave me back my belief in God after a priest had taken it away. I was re-baptized as an adult because of Thelma. I do not cry over the loss of my friend but rather rejoice knowing she is where she’ is and has wanted to be for a long time. She is missed but I’ll see her again.
My Mom
Hummingbirds and Goldfinches,
Geese in the fall.
A cup of tea when friends came to call.
Family, the Bible, colors in the fall.
Hand-crafted rugs and trips to ports of call.
Mom’s life was full from beginning to end,
And even she marveled at the places she’d been.
She’s at peace now and can rest
From the trials of this world,
And we’ll see her anon
In our hearts as she moves on.
