John Halabuda, 94, died peacefully and surrounded by his family on Saturday, November 20, 2021. Born in Watervliet, he was the son of the late Andrew and Helen Halabuda.
John was a US Marine WWII Veteran. He was a woman’s shoe buyer for Sibley’s Department Store and Altier’s and a salesman for Vincent Buick in Fairport. He was lucky enough to live independently in his home until last year, when he and his wife recently downsized. He loved spending time with family and friends, doing various home remodeling projects and entertaining. He was a voracious reader, always had a book by his side, loved doing jigsaw puzzles, listening to music, and had a keen interest in cars, Buffalo Bills football and golf. For many years he was a volunteer for the LPGA tournament.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Helen (Licata) Halabuda; beloved father of Lori (Thomas) Vossler of Buffalo, NY, Susan (Jonathan) West of Fairport and Andrew Halabuda of Canandaigua; grandfather of Andrew Halabuda, Matthew and Samantha West; and Victoria, Hillary and Brigitte Vossler; He was predeceased by his brothers and sisters: Anne Margiasso, Mary Whitney, Evelyn DeWire, Max Halabuda, Stephen Halabuda, Parasceva Halabuda, and Catherine Whitten. He is survived by many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Monday, November 29, 2021, at 10:00 am at St. John of Rochester Church, Wickford Way, Fairport, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated.
Interment will follow at the White Haven Memorial Park in the All Seasons Chapel, 210 Marsh Rd, Pittsford.

We had such a good time reminiscing with Uncle John and sharing his experiences with the Marine Corps. Sending love to all family & friends; there’s a heck of a party at “the big peoples’ table” in heaven!! ❤️❤️❤️
The passing of another great American and kind, caring, and humorous man! We were so lucky to have been raised by our own version of the YA Ya Sisterhood, with the Aunt Helen’s, Aunt Lou, Aunt Jaye, and Aunt Doris, along with our fathers: Uncles John, Joe, Tom, Tom, and Eddie! Men and women from another, perhaps more honorable, time. Uncle John was a gentle giant, who will always be remembered fondly by those who knew him. He will be welcomed with tears of joy and camaraderie by the many friends who are In Heaven with him! He’ll be missed by his children and those of us who were lucky enough to call him, “uncle.”

I’m so sorry to hear of the passing of John. He was an inspiration to me and we could always chat about the latest model of the latest car and he was up to date with it all. He will be sadly missed.
A great guy who helped me when I entered auto sales at Vincent Buick, he will surely be missed.

Helen, my sincere condolences on the passing of John. I met John around Christmas of 2020. I was a new resident at Solstice of Fairport and we met in the atrium and he asked me my name. Every time after that he would always say “hello, Harold” and I would just say “hello” because I forgot his name. One day this last summer I stopped and talked to him and apologized for not remembering his name. From then on we would always address each other by our names. I had noticed that he wasn’t coming to the dining room and I asked his wife if he was OK. She kept me up on his health and I was so surprised that he had passed. He was a friendly and nice person and even only known him for a short time I still call him my friend, I will miss seeing my friend. May he rest in peace.
On behalf of the family of Phil Spalma, we are sincerely saddened to hear of John’s passing. John and Helen, you both held such a special place in my dad’s heart. With my dad passing just recently, I hope they are both catching up and re-telling all their old stories!
