Broadhurst, Ruth P.

Ruth Phillips Broadhurst died peacefully in her sleep on November 25, 2021 at the age of 95. She was predeceased in death by her husband, Lawrence Broadhurst and her son, Richard Lawrence Broadhurst.

Born to parents, Richard Oliver Phillips and Maude Richards Phillips in Yonkers, NY on November 4, 1926, Ruth married Larry Broadhurst during their senior year at Syracuse University. They moved to the Rochester area in 1956.  She graduated with a BFA from Syracuse University where she studied her first love, drawing and painting,  and raised her family in Penfield and Fairport, NY. She moved to Pittsford, NY after being widowed, to be near her children and grandchildren.  She taught nursery school at Allendale Columbia for 30 years before retiring and was an avid oil and water color artist her entire life.

Those who knew Ruth will remember her fondly for her love of life, art and family and friends. Some of her happiest times were painting and being together with friends at the family cottage on Gananoque River in Ontario, Canada.

Anyone choosing to do so, is invited to remember Ruth with a gift to the Memorial Art Gallery of Rochester or Lollypop Farm.

How much I have missed being wth Ruth and Inky and Bev every week–painting away, having our lunches, and sharing our funny moments together. Your mom will always be in my heart –she was a doll!
