Dad’s Journey
Back in the day, when a loved one flew from the Greater Rochester International Airport, you could walk them to the gate, wait until boarding, watch them walk to the plane, and see the plane begin to taxi. We could stand at the window and watch the plane on the runway, gather speed and finally take off. Depending on the plane’s direction, your eyes would watch the plane reduce in size until it reached a mere speck and then was gone. Disappeared.
Was it really gone? While we could not see it, the plane was somewhere. We believed that our loved one was somewhere. Our hearts and minds were telling us what our eyes could not.
Soon at another airport, other family and friends waited at a window watching the sky. Seeking that mere speck. Watching it grow-in-size, land, and taxi to the gate. All present finally begin greeting our traveler with hugs and smiles.
Mom, he’s home now.

Dad,
We love you and miss you
You have always been there for us——our entire lives
We only have wonderful memories
Your love and support through good times and bad—
You were always there
You were our best advocate
You always believed in us
You were handsome, athletic, a faithful and loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.
A faithful friend and colleague
You liked to joke and loved a practical joke
You were honest, reliable and dependable
You were God loving
You had strong intuitions as you were born with a veil
We know that you will always be with us and with mom and Craig and your beloved family that have gone before us
You always told us-
“You come into this world with nothing and leave with nothing”
But you changed this for us
Born with love and you left with much love
Dad’s favorite sayings-
“Have a good day”
“God bless you”

Ray and Luci – we are sorry for your loss. It was so beautifully put with the analogy of watching an airplane fade into the sky. Now he is there with his beloved wife. Our thoughts and prayers are with you both.

I’m late in seeing the obituary, but want to say I’m sorry for your loss and will keep Edward in my prayers on this day of his funeral. The airport-theme words at the end of his obituary are so true. God’s blessings on you all!
Carol, I am so very sorry for your loss, and sorry I was out of town for calling hours. I know you were devoted to your Dad, and this is very difficult! I love the part of his obituary titled “Dad’s Journey”! Hugs and prayers for you and your family.
