Fairport, NY (formerly from Marcellus, NY) – Phyllis R. Hunt, 93, passed away peacefully on October 2, 2022. Born January 7, 1929 in Hubbardsville, NY the daughter of the late Lewis A. and Ruth R. Rhoades. She is predeceased by her husband, Bert R. Hunt and her sister Charlotte Rhoades.
Growing up she was active in the East Hamilton Methodist Church. Graduate of SUNY Oswego and Hamilton High School. She taught in Dolgeville Central and Marcellus Central School systems. She met Bert R. Hunt of Skaneateles in college and they were married in Hamilton on July 10, 1954 and were together 52 years until his passing in 2006. They raised four children and lived in Skaneateles, Ithaca, Nashville, TN and Berwyn, PA before settling in Marcellus, NY. The family enjoyed many years spent at their cottage on Skaneateles Lake. They were members of St. Mary’s of the Lake Church in Skaneateles. Phyllis volunteered at the Skaneateles Historical Society and the Marcellus Free Library.
She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), Col. Bigelow Lawrence Chapter and Mayflower Society. She loved genealogy and the Rhoades family history, recounted in numerous journals going back to 1845. Phyllis donated these journals to Colgate University’s Special Collections and University Archives. She and her sister were the 7th and last generation to live on the Rhoades Family Pioneer Farm (est. 1795) and she was a direct descendant of Amos Kingsley, one of Colgate’s 13 founders.
She is survived by her children, Peter Hunt, Jeff A. (Marina) Hunt, Jo Ann (Steve) Warner and Susan (Don) Bauch; grandchildren Ryan and Sarah Hunt, Jeffrey R. Hunt, Laura (RJ) Sweeney, and Sean Warner; two great-grandchildren Addison and Madelyn Sweeney; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Services will be held at Keenan Funeral Home (Pittsford-Palmyra Road) in Fairport, NY on October 25 with Calling Hours 1:00-3:00 and a service immediately following. Burial will be held October 26 at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Skaneateles.

Words cannot express how deeply sorry I am for all of you regarding the loss of your mother.
I remember she always had a smile on her face and how nice she was to me when I was at your house, and years later when she would see me around Marcellus.

I am so sorry for your loss., It is hard losing a mother.. Your mother was always so sweet to me when I would visit your house as a teenager. My mother enjoyed her company prior to her moving to be near Susan. My thoughts are with you!
