Age 82 • Fairport, NY

Saturday, October 22, 2022.

One of three siblings, John Gahan Mahoney, Jr. was born of John and Mary (Sheehy) Mahoney in Buffalo NY on May 3, 1940. He is predeceased by his parents, as well as by Sylvia, the mother of his children, and by his son Brian and daughter Barbara. John was loved by many who will be eternally grateful for his willingness to share his time, support, and knowledge. He is survived by Linda, his devoted wife of twenty-six years; daughter Bridget (Ken) Mazierski; brother Patrick (Diane); sister Kathleen (Bill) Padilla; grandchildren Brittany, Michael, and Kaitlyn Mazierski; stepchildren Jeffrey (Nicole) White and Jodie (Ryan Museus) Russell; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives.

After attending Erie County Technical Institute, John spent his career as an electrical engineer who could fix anything. He retired from Garlock Sealing Technologies in Palmyra, NY. As an avid collector of model trains, he was an enthusiastic member of the Rochester Model Railroad Club; for many years, he wired all their setups. John was an amateur pianist who knew only two songs by heart.

He passed away to the sounds of his granddaughter, Kaitlyn playing one of them, “Satin Doll” to him on her iPhone. John and Linda loved to travel and took cruises to the Caribbean and to the Mediterranean, spent February in Florida, and vacationed also in Italy, Ireland, and France. John was a loving husband, father, and brother––and a loyal and helpful friend. He made other’s lives fuller and better––and easier. He will be missed.

Funeral services will be held at Keenan Funeral Home, 7501 Pittsford-Palmyra Road, Fairport, NY, on Saturday, November 12, from 10:00-12:00, followed by a service.

Donations may be made in his memory to Sloan Kettering Cancer Center or American Stroke Research.
