Lawrence (Larry) D. Whiteside, 80, of Penfield, went to Heaven peacefully with family by his side. Larry was born in Rochester, NY on May 21, 1942 and was the owner of Penfield Opticians. He is survived by his children David (Jackie) Whiteside, Jennifer (Tim) MacDerment, Jeffrey (Estella) Whiteside; grandchildren Kayla (Zac) Chandler, Krista (Alex) Corbin, Allie & Garrett MacDerment, Mary Sue Whiteside; great-grandchildren Shelby & Ryleigh Chandler, Raegan Corbin; sister Janice (Jim) Cleveland & brother Robert (Madelyn) Whiteside; nieces, nephews, cousins & friends. Larry is predeceased by his loving wife Mary in 2018.
Larry was a US Army Veteran, volunteered for over 20 years with Penfield Ambulance and was Foster Parent with his wife, Mary. After retiring and selling his business, he enjoyed driving a bus for the Fairport School District. He loved watching football and was an avid Buffalo Bills, Clemson and SU fan. He was also passionate about dogs, listening to music, gardening, boating & fishing. Both Larry & Mary used to bowl and also enjoyed traveling but especially loved their summers at their family cottage on Black Lake and winters in Lake Wales, Florida.
Our family would like to thank his amazing friend Shannon Warden and wonderful neighbor Jan Richards for taking the best care of him in order to keep our dad at home as long as possible while battling Alzheimer’s Disease. Your unwavering love, kindness & selflessness meant a world of difference that is priceless and truly appreciated!
A memorial service will be held on January 21st, 2022 at 11 AM at the St. Joseph’s Church in Penfield (43 Gebhardt Rd, Penfield, NY 14526) with a reception immediately to follow. Donations can be made in his name to the following rescue where Dad adopted his last beloved dog, Oreo.
