Joan Heller Fyfe, age 86 surrounded by her family died peacefully, Saturday, January 28, 2023.

Joan was born in Rochester and grew up in the Dewey/Stone neighborhood in Greece.

She graduated from John Marshall High School and went on to study elementary education at SUNY Brockport, then called Brockport Teacher’s College.

She spent her career teaching first and third graders at Barnard Elementary and Lake Shore Elementary Schools and substituting in the Pittsford School District.

She married James Fyfe in 1959 and celebrated 50 years of marriage in 2009. 

Joan enjoyed creative activities, knitting, crafts, and flower arranging. She was a long-standing member of the Powder Mill Garden Club of which she held leadership positions. She was a loving mother and grandmother and was generous and loyal to family and friends.

Predeceased by her husband, James and dear friend, Ron Sorrentino. Survived by daughter Jill Aldrich (Stephen), son James Fyfe (Jeanine); grandchildren, Simon Aldrich and Abigail Aldrich (Michael Woods, fiancé) brother, John Heller (Jerilyn) and many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

Friends may call on Monday, February 6, 2023 from 2:30 pm – 4:30 pm at the Richard Keenan Funeral Home, 7501 Pittsford-Palmyra Road, Fairport, NY 14450. Those who knew Joan probably remember that she disliked the color black, disliked funerals and disliked lilies because they reminded her of funerals. Please consider wearing something red, her favorite color, on Monday.
