Another good one gone to soon. Prayers for the family. Keep that motley crew in line.
We lived next door to Jim when we first moved to the area. He was a wonderful neighbor and the fellas in my house sat in his chair many times over the years. The community has lost a terrific person. Condolences to all.
My heart is shattered! Jim was one of the best guys I’ve ever known! Quick witted, handsome, funny and just a charming guy. I will miss you, my friend!
Fly high Jimmy.?
Our loss is Heaven’s gain! Jim is truly unique–someone who could light up a room simply by smiling. His infectious laughter, joyful smile, and boundless kindness touched everyone who met Jim. Our beloved mother, Betty Ross, loved Jim, and he treated her with kindness and respect. Our sister Toni, who worked next door to Jim at her hair salon, looked forward to seeing Jim each day. The two had such great banter – and their joy was contagious. Our deepest condolences to Jim’s family and friends for this profound loss. May our Lord and Savior comfort you now and in future days, knowing that we were all blessed to have known Jim.
This breaks my heart. I never cared about wait for a cut. The stories were the best. I simply love this man. Rest peacefully my friend
Jim was an exceptional person. One of those who help form you during your impressionable years. He always had time for a haircut and a good laugh. As I grew older he turned into a friend and mentor prior to going off to college and the Army, Over the years he always had time for me when I’d come back to Manchester. I’ll truly miss his smile, his laugh and the gentleman he was! Rest in Peace my friend!
One of the kindest souls I’ve ever been privileged to know. Some of my fondest memories are of passing the time with Jim in front of his shop near our teenage hangout, Boardman’s, on summer afternoons way back in the 70’s. Later when my father became disabled, without even being asked, Jim came to his home to cut his hair. A darling man who truly made the world a nicer place. See you on the other side…
A very kind man who will be missed by his family, and many friends. May you Rest In Peace Jim. ♥️

My heart is broken …he was a wonderful, loving cousin and my life was and always will be better for knowing him. I am comforted in knowing he is home safe in the presence of his Lord & Savior Jesus Christ, along with all those that greeted him when he entered heaven. Although many hearts are grieving and missing him here on earth, all heaven is rejoicing…we will see him again. I am sending all my love & many prayers to comfort you at this heartbreaking time. Jimmy would want us to know he is well and very much alive in heaven waiting to greet us when we are taken home. May God wrap His loving arms around you and give you comfort and peace. I love you Jimmy ??❤️
I was so sad to hear about Jim. My dad enjoyed talking with him and asking about family when he was getting his hair cut. When Dad was no longer able to come to the barber shop, Jim would make time to come to dad’s house and cut it there until Dad was no longer able to do that. Jim was so generous and kind to my dad. We were blessed to have known such a man.
Jim was one in a million! He provided amazing service, the best conversation and always had a lollipop for the kids. He gave the most amazing cuts even when your toddler couldn’t sit still! His name comes up often in our home in discussions of the good ole days. He touched so many lives and will be greatly missed!

I first met Jim, when I needed a haircut, for a National Guard weekend, when me and my children moved back to the area.
I told him he only had one shot at this head. He said, ” Don’t worry about it…it’ll grow back an about six weeks.”
So for the next 20 plus years, Jim cut my hair, my son’s hair and even gave my grandson his first haircut.
Walking into Jim’s barber shop was like walking into Floyd’s in Mayberry.
Politics, religeon and the local news was always plentiiful.
Jim was a warm and wonderful Christian who had a quick wit and gave everyone great respect.
Jim was more than just my barber. He was a great friend, who will be dearly missed.
I met Jim in 1982 when I was appointed PM I’m Manchester. We hit it off immediately both being Veterans and the stories we shared. Jim had an infectious smile that was his trademark. Always a kind words or a shoulder to lean on
One of a kind. Our friendship grew over the years thru hard times and joyful times. He was a person that you enjoyed being around. Until we meet again in Valhalla my friend may the Lord keep you in his arms with his Legion of Angels.
I am so, so sad. Jim was the best. Not only did I fully enjoy time in his shop, I also enjoyed my conversations and text exchanges with him. Those usually, but not always, revolved around baseball, his Yankees or my Cardinals. (He is probably cutting Joe DiMaggio’s hair right now!) I will see you on the other side, my brother. In the meantime, my hair will grow…
When my Mom passed in 1993 Jim came to her calling hours. I later asked my Dad….That was nice of Mr. Gravino to come, did he know Mom? My Dad replied, “he knew me”. Once a friend of Jimmy’s that’s just the way it was. He stuck by and supported his customers and friends. Fly high Jimmy. Watch over Alice and your family. You will never be forgotten nor your compassion, kindness and love for your family and friends.
Jim was a great friend an a great barber I sure am going to miss him ; my best to his Family
Larry and I are devastated to hear this. Jim was such a gentleman, a great friend and his wit/humor was unbelievable, always laughing with him.
He will definitely be missed by everyone that knew him. Our deepest sympathy to his family, and also to Alice..
??
So very sadden for the loss of a very important person in the life of all of us who knew him. Jim was smart, witty and warm presence for all of us
Jim was a kind, caring man that left his mark on so many. Rest in peace!
I am saddened to hear of Jim’s untimely passing. Until he retired, Jim was the only Barber who ever cut my hair…and he charged me the same price whether I was 12 or 45 years old. Jim was a classic gentleman, businessman and philanthropist. He was a friend to the Fire Department; he always hung up our posters for events and sold tickets for raffles. He was a special benefactor to the Christmas Baskets delivered to needy families in the area…any turkeys he won at our annual raffle were secretly re-directed to families in need.
Several generations of young men learned a few things about respect, good humor and being part of a small town community siting in those barbershop chairs, listening and learning as Jim interacted with customers. The number and variety of people who were in and out of the shop on a daily basis was a cast of characters fit for a well-written sitcom. Everyone had a joke or news of the day to share with Jim. No matter what, they left with a smile, and were reminded to come back with a cup of coffee for Jim. (hot, black and bitter, as he used to say)
Jim touched so many lives and will be fondly remembered by everyone who had the privilege to know him.
My first professional hair cut at the age of 6 was done by Gravino. His humor, his knowledge, his mentoring, and of course his bullshit will be sorely missed !!! RIP my friend ?
Slugo and I will miss his funny wit and humor!! He was a great guy! Our thoughts and prayers are with you all!
We will miss you Barber. You were a scholar and gentleman. Thanks for the advice!!
Somewhere I have a first haircut by Jim photo and am sure that many in the Shortsville – Manchester area probably do as well, along with wonderful memories of conversations with Jim over the years. He will be missed greatly.
The man that gave my son and many others a First haircut. Jim was witty, funny and had a great laugh. Always time to say hello when he stood in doorway of his shop. Prayers and thoughts for all his families. Blessed to know Him and to have the opportunity to know his grandsons family.
Wow, a complete shock to learn of Jim’s passing. As a young man growing up in Manchester Jim’s smile and wit was a refreshing change. Jim was a friend to all and never held back on the truth. Jim will be missed, but never forgotten. May God take him home in peace and guide his family through this difficult time. Until we meet again my friend ?
Happy Trails my life long friend and neighbor. Till we meet again….
Jim was a kind and caring man. A real gentleman who will be missed by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Jim was a fun friend to me when we lived near him and Judy. A very amusing guy who always liked to laugh and tell jokes. Top man Jim!
Jim always made me comfortable when I went in and sat with a bunch of men when I took my son and grandson. He cut the hair of my dad, husband, son and grandson.
