VanDeMar, Michael J.

 May 27, 1965- May 3rd, 2023

Mick passed away due to complications from Lou Gehrig’s Disease (aka ALS-amyotrophic lateral sclerosis). He is survived by his best friend and wife Kelly, daughter Megan (Jack), son Jameson (Jessica), son Jonathan (Emily), siblings Deborah, Richard, Daniel, Donald, Denise and Douglas, and four grandchildren (Ryan, Cooper, Adelynn, and Gianna). He was predeceased by his parents Joyce Jameson VanDeMar Stein and Wayne VanDeMar and his grandparents, Donald and Ruth VanDeMar.

Mick grew up in the town of Webster and graduated in 1983. Mick attended R.L. Thomas High School where he played baseball and basketball. Mick won the section V AAA championship in basketball, and the award for Monroe County Pitcher his senior year.

While attending Monroe Community College and working as a preschool teacher, Mick met the love of his life Kelly, and they continued their education at Suny Brockport. They married in 1990 and settled in the town of Walworth within the community of Gananda.

After receiving his teaching credentials Mick spent the 1st 10 years of his career in the Holly Central School District. He then transferred to The Gananda Central School District where he finished out the next 20 years of his career as a teacher and then as district administrator. Mick directed several athletic teams for 25 years, mostnotably as the Varsity soccer and baseball coach.

From 2010 to 2015, Mick volunteered his time at the Walworth ambulance as an ambulance driver. He was proud of his service to the community through being an educator and a volunteer in the EMS field.

Mick was a very loving and dedicated family man! His greatest joy was being a grandfather. Mick always had a comment that made us laugh. His sense of humor will be missed by all who knew him.

Calling hours will be held at Living Word Assembly of God in Ontario, NY on Friday, May 12th from 4pm until 7pm. A Service will be held at Living Word Assembly of God on Saturday, May 13th at 10am, with a reception thereafter.

There will be a private family interment on Monday, May 15th at White Haven Memorial Park.
