Born April 19, 1935 in Berlin, Germany

Died May 21st, 2023

She is preceded in death by her husband George W. Carlow, her mother Frieda Gorski, and Son in Law William Wagner.  She is survived by her brother George Gorski, daughters Debi Wagner, Lisa (Bill) Campbell, grandchildren Leanne (Adam) Perez-Dunham and Amanda (Josh) Peterson, cherished great-grandchildren Owen, Adam, and Evan, nephew George Gorski Jr., and nieces, Becky Johnson and Sonya Gorski.

Our mom moved to this country from Berlin, Germany in 1956.  She married our dad that same year.  Our mom was a hard worker, first as a bookkeeper when she first came to the US, and then she opened her own beauty shop on Monroe Ave in 1964.  Her beauty shop business then moved to Brighton in 1974.  Our mother loved cooking and throwing parties for her neighbors and the people that worked at her beauty shop.  In 1988, our mother ended up having to take care of our dad that went blind at the age of 55.  She also was a caretaker for her mother.  At that point, our mother decided to close her business and began working at various nursing homes, such as Blossom Road and Penfield Place, before landing a job at Heather Heights in Pittsford.  Our mom was loved by all her customers.  I (Lisa) would stop by to visit her and all the women and wheelchairs were lined up to talk to my mom for hours.  She really knew how to put smiles on everyone’s faces.  Her house and gardens were her passion and she loved to give anyone a tour of her “estate”, even the not so interested (her daughters and granddaughters).  She loved her two granddaughters with all her heart and cherished all three of her great-grandsons.  Our mom knew how to cook like no other.  Our family have so many delicious favorites, we would run out of room writing them all down.  Her talents weren’t just hair, caretaking, gardening, and cooking, she also was an amazing baker.  Her torts and poundcakes were loved by everybody that were lucky enough to taste them.

In 2018, our mom broke her femur.  After a six plus hour surgery, and three blood transfusions later, mom at 83 years old had to stop working.  She also had to give up her beautiful estate after 56 years (very heartbreaking for all of us).  This is when the Dementia started.  Lisa and Bill took her into their house for a year, but it was too hard to maintain, so she was moved to assisted living at Solstice in Perinton.  She lived there until she needed more care.  Billy and Lisa took her in once again but Dementia isn’t for the faint of heart, we will leave it at that.  A year and a half later she moved to Memory care for eight months and as her Dementia progressed she needed a higher level of care.  Even at the nursing home everyone loved our mom, we are grateful to the Episcopal home for loving our mom.  Lastly, our mom loved my sister and I the best way that she knew how.  We will hold on treasure countless good times and memories.  The love of a mother is like no other.  We thank you for all you did for us and our families, it’s time for you to rest, you did your job here on Earth, we love you with all of our heart forever and always until we meet again.

A Funeral Service will be held Wednesday May 24, 2023 12PM at White Haven Creations Chapel 210 Marsh Road, Pittsford. Please meet at front gate.

In lieu of flowers, our family kindly asks for donations to be made to the Dementia Society of America or Episcopal home.
