Konz, Richard William

Pittsford June 2, 2023

COL Richard Konz USAR (retired)

Son, Spouse, Father,

Soldier, financial Analyst, Friend, Man of Faith.

He is survived by his spouse Helen, children- Nick (Heather), Paul (JoAnne), MaryEllen Konz Blom (William Lints), Kati Bachman (Ben), Twelve grandchildren Predeceased by his brothers Marvin (Ann), Ralph (Ginny). After an extended deterioration with Alzheimer’s Disease. Many special thanks to Lisa, Alexsis and Kim who have helped to provide his care for several  months. Calling Hours 4-6 PM Tuesday June 6 at Keenan’s Funeral Home Egypt, Funeral Wednesday June 7, 10AM, at Church of the  Transfiguration, 50 W Bloomfield  Rd, Pittsford.

Dick’s twelve grandchildren all enjoyed sleeping on him as infants; he was lucky enough to spend some time with each of them while they were very young.  He got to see them grow into educated and competent people.

He was a good, reliable, employee who for many years did budgets and forecasts at Rochester Products/Delphi. He served the 98th Division in many roles and was valued both as friend and someone who quietly got what needed doing done. He loved skiing and playing tennis, and while being renowned for his frugality managed to own excellent skis and tennis rackets! He loved to drive cars and spent many vacations driving around the USA. I believe was in every state at least once, and when he made a friend it was for life.

Dick’s family grew grapes in Naples New York; he knew how to trim, tie, and pick them; how to pound posts and pull wires! And especially how to make wine that was good enough to drink! He was rarely seen without a hat-even before he lost his hair?.

Splitting wood while camping, watching the fire burn, playing with anything that went putput, Cranberry Lake State Park camping, water skiing with Dick Kuklis, building his famous Colonel Konz sandwich, not to mention his equally beloved Colonel Konz cocktail!

He wasn’t a volunteer but quietly got things that needed to be done done! A lifelong church goer, a Bonnie’s graduate, a Distinguished Graduate of Naples High School! A child who grew up in that amazing community that understood it ‘takes a village to raise a child’ where despite too much trauma he had a happy, fruitful childhood and maintained those relationships throughout his life.

A thoroughly good man.

In lieu of flowers please consider donations to the Church of the Transfiguration or the Alzheimer’s Association.

I enjoyed visiting with the Colonel when he came to visit my mother, Nancy Seager Palese. He was always so full of life, enjoyed a good laugh and loved our country. The Seager and Konz families shared a bond for many years. With our heartfelt sympathy to Mrs. Konz and their family. Lynn Palese Parshall

COL Dick Konz was a wonderful person, good friend, a great guy with a heart as big as Naples, NY. And a good Army officer. He continued to set the leadership example long after he retired from service. We will miss him.

One of the “good guys” is gone but his giving, generous, thoughtful spirit lives on in so many hearts. Thank you for sharing him with the Bonosky’s, Helen. He is carried home by his Angels into the loving arms of our Blessed Virgin Mary where she will place him gently in the hands of Jesus.

Dick certainly was one of the good guys. I have not seen Dick in a very long time but I spent a lot of years in the accounting dept at Rochester Products working with Dick. He was a great guy to work with and you could always count on him to be honest and upfront with you. My sincere condolences to Helen and his family.
