Catherine (Sutton) Smith, born January 8, 1949 died July 5, 2023 at age 74, surrounded by friends and family. She fought a brief and quick bout with pancreatic cancer. She is survived by her children Allyson (Mark) Patterson, Alicia Stratton, and Ashley (Garry) Russell; grandchildren Alexandra, Ethan, Kaylee, and honorary grandchildren Makayla and Maddison, as well as numerous beloved nieces, nephews, in-laws, cousins, former neighbors, friends, and her very best friend since elementary school, Mary Madison. Predeceased by her loving husband of 43 years Philip, her parents Catherine (née Seward) and Donald Sutton, her sister Jacqueline, and brother Gary.
Cathy was an effervescent, joyful person who spent many years making her house a happy home, after working briefly at Kodak where she met Phil. She was involved with the Hilton Music Boosters, organizing band trips and supporting her daughters’ love of music. Cathy bowled for many years in the Friendship League, enjoyed time on Sodus Bay, gardened, was creative with crafts, spent time as a Girl Scout Leader, worked for Food Service in Hilton Central School District, and welcomed everyone with a smile and food.
Please join the family for a celebration of her life on Thursday, July 13th at 5:30PM at the Olmstead Lodge in Highland Park (171 Reservoir Ave, Rochester). In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Autism Up (www.autismup.org) or the American Diabetes Association (www.diabetes.org). You can honor Cathy’s memory by calling your best friend at 6:15PM, or inviting people over and serving way too much food.

Your mother was a beautiful soul a couple times that I got the pleasure of meeting her. Her house was always beautiful especially for Amy’s bridal shower. I’m sure you and your sisters and everyone else that knew her will truly miss her and I am sorry for your loss., ?
Cathy Smith was a dear friend to me since childhood in sorority and beyond. I am the other Kathy Smith. We kept in touch for over 60 years. She made many trips to visit me and go to lunch. I will miss our visits, laughs and phone calls. RIP Cath.
Your description of your Mom is perfect. That smile was a constant and her love for her family superseded everything. She was a caretaker and a creative force. I was blessed to know my brother was in good hands with her as an advocate for all his health issues. Cathy will surely be missed.
Please accept our condolences. In the short time we were neighbors, we found Cathy to be very friendly. She will be missed for sure.
My sincere sympathy Allyson! I didn’t know your Mom well, but what I knew, effervescent and joyful are a perfect description of her!
Cathy was a neighbor and friend. She would often stop by walking her precious beloved dog, Katie, along with whiskers, her cat following. Cathy always had a smile to share and bright light within her, she will truly be missed. ❤️

The description of Cathy as a “bright light” is apt. She shone from within, warm and welcoming, always with love. She’ll be so missed.
