Pittsford – Alice M. Kitchen passed away peacefully with children at her side on December 30th, two days before her 94th birthday. She was born in the Village of Newark, NY and when a teenager moved above the fire station when her father, Arthur, took a job for the Village of Newark Fire Department. Alice attended Newark Schools and after graduating worked for Sara Coventry/CH Stewart and spent summers with high school friends at the family cottage on Wide Waters in Newark. Alice met Dwight G. Kitchen Jr of Wolcott and married while he was serving in the Navy. She surprised him with his newborn daughter when she was invited to appear on the Betty White Show after the network selected “new father” Dwight from his ship’s crew.
Alice and Dwight moved to Rochester when he began his career at Eastman Kodak. Alice was the matriarch of the family, she was a successful woman, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. While living life in Hilton, Alice’s priority was successfully raising and supporting her children. She was heavily involved with the Hilton High School Marching Band and chaperoned a trip to Japan. She was active in Girl Scouts and extensively attended many Rochester youth hockey and McQuaid high school hockey games. Alice enjoyed the water and was an avid swimmer, whether it was in the Erie Canal, Sodus Bay, or in her own swimming pool in Hilton, Sodus Point and Pittsford. She loved to teach her kids and grandkids to swim.
Alice enjoyed sales and founded her own company, Alice Kitchen & Associates, as a manufacturer’s representative selling gifts to various gift shops across NY State, and shows in NYC and Atlanta. She ran the business until just a few years ago with much gratification and success.
Alice was a strong part of Bills Mafia, cheering on Buffalo since the 70’s. She was also a huge fan of Syracuse basketball.
Predeceased by her husband of 71 years Dwight G. Kitchen Jr just two weeks previous; parents Arthur and Alice (O’Brien) Lyman; sister Eleanor (Lyman) Spies; sister-in-law Janet (Jerry) Kaltenborn.
She is survived by her children, Kathy (Steve) Sklenar, Sue (Mike) Connell, Barb (Tim) Anderson, Chip (Patty) Kitchen; grandchildren, Tara (Brian) Scott, Stephen (Stacey) Sklenar, Mike (Alex) Connell, and Matt Connell, Bridget, David, Laura and Patrick Kitchen; great-grandchildren, Henry, Hudson, and Carrick Scott, Emelia and Evan Sklenar, Brianna and AJ Connell; Brother Arthur (Helen) Lyman, sister-in-law JoAnn (Doug) Venette, brothers-in-law Jim Kitchen and Ray Spies and numerous nieces and nephews.
Alice’s family would like to give thanks to all the staff in LoveJoy and Porter Place neighborhoods at the Friendly Home for their care over the past few months. Family and friends may gather for visitation from 11:00 – 12:30 PM on Monday January 8th which will include a service at 12:30. Richard H. Keenan Funeral Home (Egypt location 7501 Pittsford Palmyra Rd). Alice will be laid to rest in Rose Cemetery, North Rose, NY. In Lieu of flowers please donate to the Ronald McDonald House or a charity of your choice.

Alice was a great woman to work for and with. A very fair associate in the business always looking out for the representatives that helped cover her territory. I will miss her and I thought of her often after she retired. She was always considered very professional by everyone who worked with her. She will be missed. I will always appreciate the opportunities she gave me.
