Barbara Law of Fairport, NY, passed away peacefully on August 1, 2024 at the age of 81.  She was predeceased by her husband, David Law, father and mother, Robert and Clara Stoneham, brothers: Harry (Norma) Stoneham, Paul Stoneham, David (Jane) Ward and sister, Grace Stoneham.  She is survived by her sons: Stephen (Nicole) Law and Bryan (Colleen) Law, granddaughters: Paxton Law, Madilyn Law and Isobel Law, and many nephews, nieces, cousins and close friends.

She graduated from Spencerport High School in 1960 and then graduated from SUNY Potsdam in 1964 with a degree in education. She earned her master’s degree in education from SUNY Brockport a few years later.  She taught elementary education for 5 years before deciding to stay home to raise her family.  She made a remarkable career change in the early 1980s and went back to college (RIT) to get a computer technology degree. She then worked as a computer programmer at the University of Rochester, until she retired in 2008.

Family, faith, and friends were the most meaningful part of her life. Her fondest memories with her family include spending time at Keuka Lake, holiday celebrations, traveling across the country and around the world, spending time with her granddaughters, and participating in many outdoor activities including skiing, tennis, camping, sailing, golfing, and hiking.  She was the ultimate party planner/entertainer and a phenomenal cook. One of her baking specialties was making all types of Christmas cookies which she enjoyed giving to family and friends. She was active member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Fairport, where she sang in the church choir.  She was a very active member of the Hearing Loss Association of America (HLAA) for many years, including being the NY State Chapter President.

She fought cancer for 16 years and never let her sickness get her down.  She kept living life to the fullest with laughter and good times, which she did her entire life.

Funeral Service Saturday August 10, 2024 11AM at First Congregational Church 26 East Church Street, Fairport.

Barb was a great friend since high school days. She lived life to the fullest – devoted to her family, fighting for rights for the hearing impaired, and showing us all how to live fully while facing and fighting obstacles. She was an inspiration to me and I’m sure many others. She will be greatly missed by everyone whose life she touched.

I met Barb and got to know her through the Rochester Ski Club. We (Frank Stein, Terry Smith, Barb and myself) drove up to OKEMO together. We had a great time driving, skiing, dining, etc.
Her Xmas cookies were a big hit. We’ll miss her at the ski club events, skiing, and her fun personality!!!

An ultra fine person who always ran the extra mile not only when her devoted Dave was alive but also for several years after to appropriately keep herself on an upward path by engaging in numerous activities with support from a boatload of friends and devoted family. A dedicated “fan” of The First Congregational Church of Fairport, Morning Circle, and the special events of our Church. An absolute joy to know you for many years. Blessings.

I have many fond memories of working with Barb as a computer programmer at the University of Rochester. Barb kind of took me under her wing. She was a delightful and cheerful person and I am happy to have made her friendship so early in my working career. Thank you Barb! My sincere condolences to her family.
