William F. (Bill) Winslow

FAIRPORT

Passed on October 7, 2024, at the age of 81, after a short, intense bout with cancer.

Predeceased by his Father and Mother, Dr. Donald J. Winslow and Dorothy R. Bussell.  He is survived by his wonderful wife of almost 60 years, Margery (Wood) who was his Acacia fraternity Pin-Mate and then loving wife, and mother and grandmother.   Bill and Marge shared a long and happy friendship.  Additional survivors include their three children:  Donald (Cheri), Robert (Rhonda) and Sandra (Pat) Kuter and six grandchildren:  Drew (Amber), Kate Brennan (Joe), Austin Kuter (fiancée Audrey), Bryce Kuter, Emma and Sara and two brothers, David (Brenda) and Robert (Jo-Anne) as well as many nephews and nieces.

Bill graduated from Winthrop High School in Maine and went on to earn three degrees from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), his last being a Masters in Architecture in 1968.  His career started at RPI’s Center for Architectural Research, progressed to Assistant Professor and was then chosen to become an administrator heading their Physical Plant facility, sheparding several large campus building projects throughout the design and construction process.

In 1982, Bill and Marge, along with their children, moved to the Rochester area where he joined the Sear-Brown Group.  His practice included many commercial, government and industrial projects with a specialty in parking garages, including Washington Square, ROC Airport and Genesee Hospital.  Bill rose to Senior Vice President for Project Management, and in his last years, as Senior Vice President for the Western Region of this 500-person architecture and engineering firm.

Bill’s final career chapter reverted back to his first love of guiding major projects through the design and construction process on behalf of the building’s owner and future users.  These included the Blue Cross/Blue Shield facility in downtown Rochester and a similar building in Syracuse.  Bill was a part of the owner’s team for the Renaissance Square Project in all its various forms for over ten years.

In their off working hours, Bill and Marge enjoyed their cottage on Conesus Lake… boating, the July 3rd Ring of Fire, and friendships with their neighbors at the lake. Throughout the years, square dancing, contract bridge and thirty cruises were also their hobbies.  Bill was a Past Master of King Solomon’s Masonic Lodge. He was also involved in the Scottish Rite and the Oriental Shriner’s organization benefitting children’s medical needs. He recently received his 55-year apron, pin and certificate from the Grand Lodge of the State of New York.

Calling hours will be held at the White Haven Chapel on October 15, 2024, from 10:30 to 11:30 AM, followed by a Masonic Service and a brief funeral service and private interment for the family.

The family wants to thank Isaiah House staff and volunteers for all their hospice care and kindness. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Isaiah House, 1005 East Avenue, Rochester, NY 14607.
