Alice W. McRae passed peacefully November 21, 2024 at the age of 96.
She is lovingly remembered by her son Scott, daughter Christine (Christopher Duffy), grandchildren Emily(Chihiro Kondrup), and Jack, as well as many relatives and dear friends.
She grew up on a family farm in Mendon, bordering Mendon Ponds Park, with her brother Donald (Edna), and sisters Erma and Ruth (Bernie Schmidt).
One of her favorite jobs was working for the Girl Scouts training leaders about nature, hiking and camping. Later she earned a Masters in Teaching with an undergrad in Library Science from Geneseo. She retired from Freewill Elementary as a Librarian/Media Specialist, where she left with life long friends. She was a World Problem Captain for Odyssey of the Mind, and volunteered at Habitat For Humanity, WXXI, and Fairport’s Tool Thrift Shop well into her 90’s, whose proceeds help keep seniors in their home longer.
In her time off from school she traveled to many domestic and international locations, always bringing home interesting gifts and stories.
She loved going to every school and sporting event her grandchildren participated in, family gatherings and spending time with friends. She was known for baking Christmas cookies for those she loved.
Her family and friends will celebrate her memory in the spring at Mendon Ponds Park, a place she enjoyed growing up and as an adult.

Oh, I miss her already! And yes, I’ll miss those Christmas cookies and those summertime blackberry pies. Most of all I miss her talks about life, nature, travel around the world! And of course her love of family and God! Freewill Elementary is what brought Alice, Fran my wife and me together! Boy did we have a blast! 54 years gone in a blink! Thank you Alice for being You!
Will always have fond memories of Alice, ( and Scott, and Christine), from being neighbors on Lonesome Road. Time may come to a stand still, but memories go on forever. Will always remember Alice.
I remember Alice fondly as a neighbor, Girl Scout leader and substitute teacher for the Fairport School District. my thoughts are with all of her family.
I remember Alice fondly from my days at Freewill school. She instilled my love of a reading.
