Marion Regina Murphy Grove 1927-2025

Marion Regina Murphy Grove was born to George J Murphy and Madeline Kreyer Murphy on July 6, 1927. She left a void in her families life on February 14th, 2025.

Marion attended a one room school house in Fairport New York and attended Fairport High School graduating in 1945. She entered nursing school under the Cadet Nurse Corps during WWII and graduated in 1948 as a registered nurse. She worked primarily at Rochester General and Strong Memorial Hospital for over 50 years, retiring to enjoy her home and flower gardens.Retirement allowed her to devote more time to be with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her family always felt the love and support she provided. Her family will never forget the love she brought to their lives.

Marion was the beloved mother to 8 children Karen Jean, Thomas E, (Donna), Donna J, (Mark) Schroeder, Elaine M Mann, Patrick M, (Christine), Kathleen A, (James) Pharoah, Maureen M Ackman, Timothy J, (Sue).

She is survived by 16 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren. Survived by sister Jean Murphy.

Her compassion & love of family and friends is a big part of her legacy. She loved to camp, work in her garden and plan neighborhood get togethers. She also displayed her love by baking, canning, and crocheting. All family members each have afghans, scarves and mittens to treasure forever. She donated crocheted items to children’s hospitals, and local charities.

Preceded in death by the father of her children Eugene Francis, their daughter Karen Jean, her parents George & Madeline Murphy. Brother George T Murphy (Sonny) sister Patricia Joslyn.

We find comfort in knowing that mom’s legacy lives on through the lessons she taught us, the love we shared and the memories we will cherish forever.

  1. That picture in the sparkly green outfit is so entirely Grandma Grove. What a beautifully full life. She was a graceful powerhouse and always will be in the hearts she helped shape while she was here. I love you so much and I know you loved all the little flowers on your impressive branch of the family tree.

My grandmother embodied strength and grace. As a WWII nurse and single mother of seven, she showed us how to face life’s challenges with dignity. Her warm smile, nurturing spirit, and dedication to caring for others inspired my own path in healthcare. Her greatest gift was teaching us that love and determination can overcome any obstacle. Her legacy lives on in the countless lives she touched.

I was one of the many “Kool Aid Kids” that Aunt Marion made welcome in her home and gave great comfort to. She always had room for one more, and often had room for all 7 of us Murphy kids. She was one of the most loving (and especially forgiving) people I ever met. Though I’ve lived far from Fairport for 50 yrs she always meant a great deal to me.

While I didn’t often see Aunt Marion after our move in 1973, she was always welcoming and full of life during our visits. She loved recanting stories about family and helped us stay connected with relatives. Her smile and laughter will be missed. Condolences to all.
