It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Ruth Wik, 90, of Pittsford, NY. Ruth was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She was surrounded by her family when she departed this world on February 20, 2025.

Ruth was born in Brooklyn NY in 1934 to Lillian and Max Garber.  She was raised in Brooklyn NY with her three sisters. Her family was very loving and close to each other. That love was then extended to her own family and friends by her examples of kindness, humility, support, sacrifice and devotion. She and her husband, George, raised their children in Hightstown NJ before moving to Rochester to be near family.

Predeceased by her loving husband, George, Ruth is survived by their three children Barbara (Glenn) Miller, Deborah (Daniel) Meess, and Leonard (Diane Carlson) Wik. Her legacy of love lives on through her grandchildren: Stephen (Jeannine) Miller, Rebecca Miller, Brian (Kirsten) Meess, Karen (Nick) Meess Tuttle, Joseph (Katie) Wik, Maria (John) Wik Reuter and Erik (Eden) Carlson.

She was predeceased in death by her parents, Lillian and Max Garber and sisters Beatrice Garber and Miriam Cooperman . Her sister and brother-in-law Linda and Ben Gordon, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Leonard and Betty Wik survive her as well as many nieces and nephews.

Ruth was particularly happy she lived to see eight great-grandchildren join the family: Sophie and Maxwell Miller, Calvin Tuttle, George and Annmarie Wik, Caroline and Charles Reutter and Kristopher Carlson.

Ruth was affectionately known as ‘GMa’ by her grandchildren. They have many happy memories of playing board games, learning favorite family recipes, working on puzzles, and laughing with her at family reunions on Seneca Lake.

Ruth moved to Rochester in 1999 and has made many friends through her social activities. She was a member of Temple B’rith Kodesh, and  multiple mahjong, canasta, euchre and rummikub games. She was a friend to all and lived by the phrase ‘The More the Merrier’.

Her last year of life was spent in Hawthorne Assisted Living at St. John’s Meadows. The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to the staff at Hawthorne for their devotion and loving care of our mother.

In lieu of flowers please consider donations to the National Heart Association or the Alzheimer’s Association (in memory of her husband, George).

Ruth will be forever loved and deeply missed. May she rest in peace, reunited with her beloved George and all family members who went before her.
