Gloria D. Wright Proctor of Fairport New York departed this life on Monday April 16, 2018. Born in Whitehaven, Maryland, she was the eldest daughter of the late Wilmer James Wright and Hilda Hughes Wright. As a country girl growing up in Whitehaven, she was educated alongside other relatives and long-time friends at the former one room schoolhouse on Capitola Road.  Thereafter, her high school years were spent at Salisbury High School. After graduation in 1951, Gloria relocated to New York City.

While working at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City, Gloria would meet and eventually marry her beloved Edward “Eddie” Langley Proctor, Jr.  Together they would raise four children, and share many adventures, as Eddie’s work took him to destinations near and far. Gloria is preceded in death by her husband Eddie, and sisters Marian Lee Wright Edwards and Kay Frances Wright Hargrave.

Gloria possessed a loving and kind spirit.  Some of her favorite pastimes were reading, playing mahjong and bridge, spending time with family and friends, and traveling. She was a great cook, and enjoyed decorating her home and listening to Otis Redding and Rod Stewart. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Edward (Caroline) Langley Proctor III, Robyn (William) Selent, Christopher Proctor (Catherine) and Sian (Stephen Borth) Proctor; grandchildren, Jackson, Chase, Denali, Benjamin, Maverick and Shenandoah; brother, Hughes (Susie) Wright; sisters, Dorothy Wright and Virginia Wright; brother-in-law, Harry (Neat) Proctor; sister-in-law, Sandra Saunders; several nieces and nephews.

A “Celebration of Life” service will be held Sunday at 12:00-2:00pm at the Richard H. Keenan Funeral Home, Fairport, NY.
