Fairport – Passed away Sunday, May 13, 2018 at age74 due to Lewy Body disease.
Predeceased by his parents (Clyde, NY), LeRoy Jones and Anna DeLeo; grandson, Everett Arey. Survived by his daughter, Lisa Jones (Carlton) Wilson; son, Chad (Heather) Jones; grandchildren, Trenton and Taylor Wilson; ex-wife and best friend, Sandra Schmaltz and her spouse, Steve (Dave’s TV sport’s buddy). While David always saw his glass as half empty, it was actually overflowing. He was an avid lover of nature, Italian food, dogs, jokes, books, old cowboy movies, hot rods, “oldies but goodies” music and enjoyed a good Bloody Mary. David was an accomplished hiker, having hiked half the Appalachian Trail and most of the ADK high peaks. He was also an exercise enthusiast, competing in several marathons and biking around Lake Ontario. He volunteered at Lollipop Farm and Meals on Wheels, was a member of Huggers Bike Club and served in the US Navy (1961- 1967). While he was a man of minimal words, preferred the solitude of the forest and kept a small circle of friends, he was well known to the community at large for his sense of humor, his stories about his trail adventures and comforting presence. David’s courage, determination and drive were tested throughout his life, yet he remained steadfast even through his later years. Friends and family are invited to help celebrate his life and final ascent to newfound peace at the summit on September 8, 2018 from 12:00 -3:00 PM, Pond’s View Shelter, Mendon Ponds Park.
