Patricia L. Canan passed away on Thursday, December 6, 2018.  Pat was born Patricia Louise Gargan on March 18, 1937, in Rochester, NY.  She was predeceased by her parents, Helen and Leonard Gargan, two sisters, Lois and Jean Gargan, a nephew, Christopher Miller, and brothers-in-law, Gregory Miller and Morton Polster. She is survived by her five children: Mary Lou Conroy, Ellen Grady, Christine (Mark) Pennella, Maureen (Tom) Curley and Kevin (Jennie) Canan; 14 grandchildren: Devin, Andrew and Ryan Conroy, Alexandra, Ian and Connor Grady, Jordan, Kylie and Logan Pennella, Samantha, Ava and Alexa Grace Curley and Emma and Reese Canan; two sisters: Joan Polster and Mary Ann Miller; and her many nieces and nephews.

Pat was an avid golfer.  She was a member of Clifton Springs Country Club for over fifty years, and enjoyed playing golf every Thursday evening in the summer in her club league for decades, as well as playing in golf tournaments and clubs throughout the region.  Pat loved her family more than anything.  She was proud of her children and delighted in her grandchildren.  She enjoyed playing games of all types, including bridge, and could often be found at holiday time at her daughter Chris kitchen table surrounded by her children and grandchildren, laughing and playing board games, card games and dice games.

Pat was a registered nurse and most enjoyed helping clients in her position as a rehabilitation consultant. She attended nursing school at St. James School of Nursing in Hornell, New York.  Pat was creative and enjoyed her sewing and craft projects.  She made gingerbread dolls for her children and grandchildren.  Pat was fiercely independent.  She liked to tackle home improvement projects, with the belief that she could handle even the most complicated or detailed project or decorating idea.  Pat loved to read and was always interested in science.   She particularly enjoyed learning about new medical developments.

This past September, Pat was delighted to be able to spend a vacation on Hilton Head Island with her two sisters, Joan and Mary Ann.  The three sisters enjoyed a week together.  Pat loved the sun and the water.  She spent many summers with her family during her younger years at Conesus Lake in the Finger Lakes region.

Pat’s greatest gift to her children was teaching them how to laugh together, enjoy each other and rely on each other.  Pat will be greatly missed every day, but her warm spirit will live on through memories of her shared by her four daughters, her son, her 14 grandchildren and her large extended family.

A Catholic funeral mass will be held at St. John of Rochester Church in Fairport, on Monday, December 10, 2018, at 10:00 a.m.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Perinton Volunteer Ambulance Corps. or American Lung Association.

I truly enjoyed playing Twilight golf with Pat and having dinner afterwards on Thursdays at the Club. Loved hearing all about her kids and grandkids and all their accomplishments. She was the proudest mom and grandmother! I am so grateful for her friendship and glad that I was invited to have lunch with Pat and other Clifton Springs Country Club gals just five weeks ago. She will be sorely missed by her legion of friends.

I am so very sorry to hear of Pat”s passing. I played many rounds of golf with Pat at Clifton Springs Country Club and especially enjoyed traveling to other courses with her. She was the best chipper ever. She was so proud to share accouplishments of her children and Grandchildren. I remember a book she brought one day that was made by her family. She truly made the best friend and loving person anyone could ask for. I know her family will always carry her in their heart as anyone that knew Pat will. Be at peace Pat and keep chipping away in heaven.
