Joan Schonleber Peck – January 12, 2019

Born in Rochester, New York on July 21, 1930.

Predeceased by her loving husband of 62 years, Jack; parents E.J. and Gladys (Dutcher) Schonleber; brothers, John (Jack) and William Schonleber.

Survived by brother, Gary (Janet) Schonleber; children, Kathleen (Gerard, III) Rioux, Daniel (Elaine Lyons), Dennis (Jill Travers) and Missy (Don) Peck-Moniak; grandchildren, Andrea (Kevin) Tseng-Rioux, Gerard Rioux, IV, Andrew Peck, and Nathan Peck; great-grandchildren Evelyn Rioux and Gerard Rioux, V.

Joan graduated from Our Lady of Mercy High School in 1948and Harcum College in Bryn Mawr,  PA in 1950.  She worked for the U of R Alumni Association, the US State Department and Haloid before starting a family.  After her children were school age, she worked for the Adult Education Department at East Rochester High School, the BOCES Federal Credit Union and the Town of Perinton.  She retired from the town in 1989 after 13 years of service in the Building Department.

She volunteered with many organizations, including the Fairport Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, Honor Flight, Center Stageconcerts, and various golf tournaments.  She enjoyed gardening,golf, and walking the beaches in the Carolinas and Florida.  Her family will remember her meticulous organizational skills as evidenced by the multitude of well documented family photo albums, the delicious apple pies she baked and her love of almost every flavor of ice cream. Her love of ice cream began early while working for her father’s business, Love’s Ice Cream and Candies.

Sincere gratitude is extended to the loving and compassionate staff of the Jewish Home. In lieu of flowers, consider a donation to Fairport Fire Department, Serenity House or Honor Flight (??)

A memorial mass will be offered at 10 am on Saturday, January 26th at St. John of Rochester Catholic Church, 8 Wickford Way, Fairport, NY 14450.  The mass will be live streamed on the church’s website,  www.stjohnfairport.org.
