Allan Ernst Gaesser was born in February 26th 1939 to Walter and Mildred Gaesser in Rochester, NY. Al was the secondyoungest of five boys. Predeceased by Walter & (Shirley) the eldest and he is survived by his brothers Rev. Ronald, David(Ann), and Steven. Al’s children: Eileen (Kevin), David, Matthew (Michelle), grandchildren: Amy-Lynn, AJ, Zachary Allan, Hannah, Gabrielle, Amelia and Aubrey. Al is alsosurvived by his sisters in law Madeline (Charlie) Delia and Debbie (Al) Harrison. Growing up Al worked for his father’s food market on Caroline Street in the city. He worked in construction and helped build McQuaid Jesuit High School while attending as the first graduating class in 1958. Whileattending St. John Fisher College, he worked at the Beechnut Baby food factory where he met his late wife Amelia “Amy” Portanova. In 1963 he graduated from St. John Fisher with a degree in business. He married Amy the following year, September 7th 1964.

Al began his career selling Life insurance for Northwestern before starting his own Property & Casualty Agency,AG/Gaesser Agency in 1969, where he and Amy worked out of their house. In 1977 Al with a business partner Anthony Affrontiobtained the second franchise of Abbott’s Frozen Custard which was the third ever location on the corner of Fairport Road and Baird Road. Years later he moved his agency to the building directly behind Abbotts Fairport in 1983. In the next following years Al and Anthony broke ground and built a plaza behind Abbotts and AG/Gaesser Agency.

Al was a very hardworking man that was devoted to his wife, children, and eventual grandchildren. He enjoyed many hobbies some of which included but are not limited to: traveling, card playing, golfing, most notably his love for sailboats and boating, and last but certainly not least teasing his grandchildren. Al became a member at the Rochester Yacht Club and kept his boat there for many years, while still maintaining his membership he moved his boat to the Thousand Islands in Canada. Al and Amy shared an affinity for sailing Lake Ontario and taking the boat to Canada. A lot of his summers were spent with her, their children and grandchildren up in the 1000 Islands, especially Camelot and Endymion Island. (https://hydrogen.aero/)  This place quickly became a haven where many memories and lots of love were shared.

Al never missed any of his grandchildren’s events, whether that be sporting, dance or singing he was there. He was extremely supportive and braced all conditions, through the cold, rain, snow or shine, you could count on Grandpa Al. He’s left a long legacy, one in which will be lived on through his children, grandchildren, and family.
