1924-2019
Originally born in Canada, at a young age June moved to Rochester with her mother, sister and brother. She is a descendant of Joseph Juneau who founded Juneau, Alaska and Solomon Juneau who founded Milwaukee, Wisconsin. June was very proud of this part of her heritage and loved to tell stories about life in Canada and her Canadian family history.
A talented legal assistant, June worked with prominent law firms in the historic Powers Building, downtown Rochester for many years. This is also where she met the love of her life, Charles “Chick” Carroll. After retiring from her law profession, she worked for the Community Partners for Youth/Big Brother Big Sister organization helping at risk youth in the Rochester area. She was a long time member of St Thomas More Catholic Church where she worshiped and served.
June and her husband Chick traveled the US extensively as he fulfilled his Air Force Reserve duties. She often talked about these wonderful travels to Colorado, Texas and the National Parks as some of the highlights of her life. She also loved her special times visiting Maine with Chick and their friends.
Friends and relatives frequently visited their home and were always warmly received, sometimes with a cold Genesee Cream Ale. Visits would always include the latest jokes June and Chick would have ready for the enjoyment of all.
June loved spending time with her numerous nieces and nephews whom she loved as her own. During the many special visits with “Aunt June”, often on a cold winter day with a cup of hot chocolate, stories were shared and enduring memories were made.
All animals large and small were always welcome at “Aunt June’s resort for animals”, her home in Fairport, NY. From deer to raccoons to squirrels to flocks of ducks up from the barge canal, not one ever left without a meal and many made their homes there. June especially loved her pet dogs and cats over her lifetime.
Over these past seven years June lived in a beautiful community at The Rochester Presbyterian Home (RPH). She was known by all as the mayor of RPH with a quick wit and engaging personality. June was loved by staff and residents alike.
A woman of deep faith, how fitting that June slipped into heaven while listening to the 23rd Psalm with family by her side. We can only imagine her joy as she was embraced by her loving Savior God in heaven, where she now lives for all eternity.
Marie June Carroll will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing and loving her.
