Bantle, Betty Jane (Cleveland)

Betty was born October 25, 1920 in Watertown, NY, the only child of Archie and Florence Cleveland. She was a graduate of Watertown High School, Hartwick College (BA) and the University of Rochester (MA).
She began her teaching career in West Carthage, NY and subsequently taught in Pulaski, NY; Groton, NY; and Fairport, NY. At Fairport, she taught World History, American History and AP American History and was Chair of the Social Studies Department. She was an active member of the Fairport teachers’ union (FEA) and served as its President.
In 1945, she married Raymond O. Bantle (deceased). She is survived by her sons, Douglas (Trudy), Robert (Melinda) and Thomas, and by her daughter, Judith Straw (Andrew); grandchildren Edward Bantle, Marlena Taylor (Brooke), Graig Bantle (Jennifer), Laura Byington (Matthew), Allison Straw, Rebecca Straw, and Scott Straw; great-grandchildren Miranda, Maren, Audrey, and Faith Taylor, Alexander and Zachary Bantle, and Alexandra and Everleigh Byington.
Betty was an enthusiastic traveler, visiting all 50 states and countries on every continent except Antarctica. She loved gardens and gardening. An inveterate knitter, sewer, cross-stitcher and quilter, she kept busy working on a myriad of projects for family (and their dolls) and friends. As an avid reader and consumer of media, she enjoyed discussing local, national, and world news.
Betty attended Perinton Community Church for over 50 years. After her retirement, she spent winters at her second home in Holmes Beach, Florida.

I have fond memories of Mrs. Bantle and Mr. Bantle as well. I always needed help in American History and Science. They were patient with me! Whenever we as cheerleaders had to sell our candy bars; Mr. Bantle would always be happy to help us!! Condolences to the family.

Mrs Bantle was not my teacher, but my neighbor. I remember with fondness her graciousness to the kids in the neighborhood. When the flag was flying we could all come swimming. She was an amazing lady.

Mrs. Bantle was my AP History teacher many years ago. She was a great teacher. I also remember she made everyone gingerbread cookies at Christmas which was a nice surprise. I definitely remember her as one of my best teachers.
