Claire was born on March 22, 1935 to her parents Harlan and Lorrie VanLone of Laurelton Road, Rochester, NY. She attended St. Ambrose School where she met her future husband Philip A. Dailey, Sr. Soon after Claire graduated in 1952 from Our Lady of Mercy High School, she travelled extensively across the United States and Canada via bus and train as well as exploring post World War II Europe arriving back home via steamship through Ellis Island. She then began her working career at Rochester Gas & Electric, Rochester, NY until her marriage to Philip on September 14, 1963 and subsequently had three children. During this time, she focused on family becoming a den mother for Boy Scout Troop 280 Den 4 and volunteering at her children’s school & her parish St. John of Rochester, Fairport, NY.
In 1980’s, Claire went back to work at McQuaid Jesuit High School, Rochester, NY where she was the administrative assistant to the president’s office and the development office retiring in the 1990’s. During her retirement, she travelled to visit her children in numerous locations across the United States, avidly reading murder mystery books (totaling 910 nook ebooks & unknown library hard copies), obsessively playing online hidden object games (resulting in 644 games played on BigFish website), faithfully perusing on a daily basis the Rochester Democrat & Chronicle newspaper (being a subscriber for 57 years), tending to her gardens, ardently praying the rosary, and experimenting with new recipes adding to the large recipe collection created by four generations of Dailey & VanLone women.
Claire is remembered as a stoic German woman who was a quietly caring mother opening the house to a constant flow of her children’s friends cooking meals, cleaning clothes or setting up a bed for all who visited.
Claire went in peace surrounded by her children on January 27, 2020. She is predeceased by her husband Philip A. Dailey, Sr. and survived by her children Philip A. Dailey, Jr (Amelie) of Santa Monica, CA and Douglas M. Dailey (Maria) of Sammamish, WA and Lizabeth R. Dailey of Fairport, NY as well as grandchildren Sofia and Ethan.

One response to “Dailey, Claire A.”
I was sorry to read of Claire’s passing. I worked with her at McQuaid. She was such a nice person. Friends to all and helpful to me when I was so new to the community. To her family I pray the good memories will give you strength at this time.
