Fairport/Black River:
Sally Ebersbach, age 71, passed away peacefully at her home in Fairport with her loving family by her side on Tuesday, March 3, 2020.
Sally was born in Oswego, NY, the daughter of William and Dorothy Burke. She lived in Black River, NY for over 30 years and recently moved to Fairport, NY to be close to her family.
Sally will be sorely missed by her husband of almost 50 years, Bill; son, Greg; daughter, Julia (Joseph) Croft; grandsons, Cooper, Sawyer and Cole Croft; and sisters, Barbara (Ron) Nelson and Karen Burke. Sally will be fondly remembered by her lifetime friends from Oswego; her good neighbors in Black River especially Doris, Jill, Tarra, and Brenna; her comrades in the choir at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church in Watertown, NY; and her fellow artists in Perinton, NY.
Sally graduated Valedictorian from Oswego High School in 1966. Sally obtained her BA Degree from Syracuse University in 1966 and her Masters of Education Degree from SUNY Potsdam in 1991. Sally was a teacher at the Watertown and Carthage school districts working primarily as a substitute teacher at the Black River Elementary School. Sally enjoyed watercolor painting, reading, yoga, music, and especially spending time with her beloved grandsons. She served many years as a Trustee at the Sally Ploof Hunter Memorial Library in Black River.
During her senior year in high school, Sally was voted the Most Likely to Succeed. This prediction was surely accurate. Sally was highly successful as a wife and companion, mother, grandmother, friend, neighbor, teacher, artist and community member. Sally was a loved, lovely person.
Sally’s family would like to thank the professionals at UR Medicine Wilmot Cancer Center and Lifetime Care of Rochester for their excellent treatment and support during Sally’s heroic battle with cancer.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, March 9, 2020 at 11:15 AM at Church of the Assumption, 20 East Ave., Fairport. Interment will take place in the spring time in Oswego.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to either the Sally Ploof Hunter Memorial Library building fund in Black River or to the American Cancer Society.

Bill, I didn’t know you and Sally as well as a lot of people who will comment, but I do know she was a wonderful lady. She always made me feel like one of the girls whenever I would visit with my mom (Susan). Prayers and love for you and your family. Love, Kathy Nalle-Carr

Bill and family, and friends, I am so sorry for your loss, and I am sorry I won’t be there on Monday, but I will remember Sally for the good times together as children and adults with our other friends from Oswego, laughing, playing games, roasting marshmallows and just talking things out in the early morning hours.
