Patricia Ann Hynes (Klehammer), age 79, died March 18, 2020, after courageously battling lung cancer for the past year and a half. She was born July 8, 1940, in Rochester, NY and raised by her parents Marguerite and Joseph Klehammer. She married the love of her life, Owen Hynes, on October 31, 1965.
Patricia is survived by her children, Matthew (Kerry) Hynes, Tina (Patrick) Trudeau, and Eric (Kimberly Jo) Hynes; seven grandchildren, Zachary and Joshua Hynes, Erin, Abigail, and Sara Trudeau, and Jordyn and Hailey Hynes; Brothers, Edward (Christine) Klehammer and Robert (Beth) Klehammer; Sister-In-Law: Monica (Ralph) Boss; Brothers-In-Law: James (Judith) Hynes, George (Margaret) Hynes, and Alex (Mitzi) Sotir; and many nieces, nephews, and cherished friends. Predeceased by her loving husband, Owen; sisters-in-law: Gertrude Hoban and Norma Sotir; brother-in-law, Joseph Hynes; and dear friend Gail Peck. Her love has also embraced many “adopted” children and grandchildren who share in her loss.
Patricia was co-founder and retired President of Hynes Concrete, the family business she and Owen started in 1977. She was a charter member of the Greater Rochester, NY Chapter #314 of the National Association of Women in Construction (“NAWIC”). The chapter was chartered in 1985. She was a true example of the NAWIC Core Purpose: To enhance the Success of Women in the Construction Industry. Over the years, she had held every office on the Chapter Board, as well as having been Chair of, and served on, many various committees. She was proud to serve as a mentor to other women in business. She received the NAWIC Region 14 Outstanding Member Award in 2001. She traveled to Washington, D.C. in 2003 to receive the Federal Highway Administration’s Minority Enterprise Development Award for her company’s quality, workmanship, and significant contributions to the Disadvantaged Business Enterprise Program.
Patricia lived out her faith. She was a dedicated member of St. John of Rochester Church since moving to Fairport in 1966. Over the years, she volunteered as a religious education teacher, Youth Ministry Chaperone, Eucharistic Minister, Sharing Tree Coordinator and volunteer for the Christian Service Committee. Together with Owen, she served on the Building Committee and helped facilitate many building projects on the church campus. Patricia also served on the Parish Council, Finance Committee and most recently, over a decade, on the Board of Trustees. Patricia happily attended 9:00 a.m. Sunday mass and cherished the friends she made at St. Johns.
Patricia walked through life with humble courage and faced life’s obstacles with grace and determination. She will be remembered for her kindness, generosity, and willingness to always open her heart and home to everyone who crossed her path. Patricia worked hard and set an example for others. Family, faith, and friends were her priorities, to know her was to love her.
Patricia’s family laid her to rest in a small private ceremony held Saturday, March 21, 2020. When it is safe to gather with family and friends, they will be having a memorial mass at St. John of Rochester followed by a celebration of her life.
Her family wishes to thank all of the wonderful caregivers at the Lipson Cancer Center, and Michaela Ryan for her loving in-home care.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the following organizations important to Patricia: St. John Of Rochester Youth Ministry, NAWIC Chapter 314 scholarship program or Our Lady of Mercy School for Young Women

Bless her and her family.
We want to extend our thanks for the live streaming of Pat’s service. We know, had the Earthly world’s circumstances not forced us all to remain home, the church would have been filled to the rafters with extended family, neighbors, her Hynes Concrete family and friends. Your willingness to share Pat’s service was a beautiful gift to us all.
We came to know Pat over the last few years as a result of our dear friend Irene. Irene, a member NAWIC, felt we would fit right in with the wonderful women who have since become our friends too. This allowed us to come to know Pat as the force she is. Pat enriched our lives with her intellect, humor and warmth. We are grateful.
Eric, Tina & Matt our family sends our blessings to you all, on the passing of your wonderful Mom! Along with your dad, she touched all our lives, since we were little kids. lol, we always knew Mrs. Hynes was the boss. I have had the great honor of knowing and working with Pat through our membership as founding members of NAWIC Chaper #314. Pat was and always will be a great inspiration to those she worked with in our industry and helped to mentor along the way. I am honored to have known Pat and grateful for our friendship. A true trailblazer who will be missed by so many.
Pat was a friend and someone who was a really individual who was a doer, not a looker. . I will remember her and am grateful for her advise.
God Bless YOU!
I will always remember YOU!!!
We we’re very sorry to hear about Pat’s passing. Our thoughts and prayers are with your family at this difficult time.
