Penfield – Born April 6, 1941 in Rochester, NY to Francis and Monica Haas, Jim graduated from Brighton High School in 1959, and in 1964 earned a BA in Business Administration from the U of R. Jim married Linda Frank in 1964. In 1967 their oldest son Howard was born in Germany during Jim’s military service in the 9th Engineering Battalion, in Aschaffenburg, Germany. Jim retired from the US Army Reserve with the rank of Captain.

Jim worked in administrative and sales positions; in 1991 started his own manufacturing rep business, retiring in 2019.  If asked, Jim would tell you his most important lifetime accomplishment was his two cherished sons, Howard and Peter who he always encouraged and supported in their educational pursuits and subsequent careers.  Howard is the Chief Economist for a wholesale energy market think tank, and Peter is an Emergency Medicine Physician at Cleveland Clinic.

Jim enjoyed his years serving as a Bridge Officer, including Commander, of the Rochester Power Squadron where he and Linda made many wonderful lifetime friends.  He also enjoyed the camaraderie of fellow former military service members at the Penfield American Legion Post.

Predeceased by his parents, father and mother-in-law Howard and Maude Frank, sister and brother-in law Barbara and Charles Gray, sister-in-law Sally Wing and many aunts, uncles and cousins.  Jim leaves a legacy of hard work, generosity, faithfulness, and loving dedication to his country and his family. He was blessed with 2 exceptional and loving daughters-in-law and 5 wonderful grandchildren, Aidan, Keira Mei, Andrew, Liam, Ryan.  The memories of his sense of humor, his strong conservative political views, his passion for liberty and freedom for America will live on in the hearts of his family and close friends forever.

So sorry to hear about the loss of Jim. Jim and Linda were great additions to the Rochester Sail and Power Squadron. Although I haven’t been active lately in the organization Jim was always kind and helpful to me.

A great man. As a friend of Howard and Peter, this was a second home for me. Dinner servings were large but the love was even greater. Mr. Haas was a great role model on how to be a patriot to this great nation, but more importantly, how to be a good father. His influence on those around him was unequivocal. Pour a Scotch for me when we meet again Mr. Haas. I’m legal 🙂

Jim was one of our favorite clients and will be missed by us all. He was man of amazing strength as he endured more than one person should face. He is now resting with ease and in total peace. May we all learn and live by his example.
