Helen died peacefully on Friday, September 25, 2020 at the age of 92.  Predeceased by her beloved husband Jerry, she is survived by her two daughters, Lynne and Amy and her much loved son-in- law Dennis.  She leaves behind seven grandchildren, Carrie (Matt) Raponi, Christopher (Ginny) Madden, Abbey Francis, Zachary Madden, Samantha Bennettlepel (Donovan Hall), Henri Bennettlepel and Katherine Madden; and nine great-grandchildren, Tristan, Lucian and Bennett Raponi; Will and Lilli Madden; Jordan, Michael, Victoria and Kayleigh Bender.

Helen’s life revolved around her family, faith, and friends.  She was a life-long resident of Fairport and dedicated much of her life to her community.  She was a member of the Church of the Assumption where she served on many committees, including Bereavement and Linens, was a member of the St. Mary’s Guild, and was a Eucharistic Minister.

She was involved, along with Jerry, with the Fairport Rotary Club as a member of the Rotary Ann’s.  In recognition of her many years of service to the club she was recognized a Paul Harris Fellow.

Helen always wanted to be a teacher.  She fulfilled this dream by being a Religious Education teacher at the Father Kelly School of Religion and working as a teacher’s aide at Monroe County BOCES.  She touched many young lives.

Helen volunteered for over twenty years at the Advent House.  She worked with residents and their families and was a staple at the annual Garage Sales.

In spite of all the time Helen spent serving her community, she loved a good time.  She loved her monthly bridge parties, Saturday nights with the Over and Under 40 club for dinner and square dancing, and lunches with the Lunch Bunch.  She enjoyed good times with many wonderful neighbors.  And most of all, the years spent with the “Pheasant Gang”.

Helen and Jerry made the most of their retirement years.  They enjoyed traveling with family and friends, seeing much of the US as well as many parts of Europe.

Helen always said she was a blessed woman.  She was a wonderful friend to many and loved immensely by her family.  She was always ready with a smile, a hug, a laugh, a good joke and a libation.

She was one of a kind and will be dearly missed.

The family wishes to thank the staff of the Baptist Home for the love and care given to Helen.  Thank you so much for being her family when we couldn’t be there with her.  We are eternally grateful for being able to spend the last two weeks with her in the Hospice suite.

Donations in her honor can be made to the Fairport Baptist Home, 4646 Nine Mile Point Rd, Fairport, NY 14450 or the Advent House, 1010 Moseley Rd, Fairport, NY 14450.

Calling Hour Tuesday 4-7pm at the Richard H. Keenan Funeral Home (Egypt Location) 7501 Pittsford Palmyra Road, Fairport. Funeral Mass Wednesday 11:15 at Church of the Assumption.

Helen was my across the Street neighbor at Elizal Court. She became a wonderful friend.& we had many chats about Fairport & our earlier lives. She loved our neighborhood
gatherings. She he was very fond of my husband Kel & he enjoyed her visits. I always said that she had a direct line to God & any problems that I had: I asked her to pray & they usually got resolved.& turned out well. I missed her very much when she had to move to assisted living. I will always remember her with love

We are so sorry for the loss of this beautiful lady. Our memories of Helen are of her beautiful smile, cheerful disposition and kind heart. Her story telling was always an occasion to look forward to. Helen and Jerry were such good friends to Mom & Dad Knapp and that friendship was extended to our generation and beyond. Their antics together made them family legends. Helen led by example: kind, generous, community-minded, good neighbor, precious friend, May she be at peace with all of God’s angels.

So very sorry for the loss of one of the kindest, vibrant, spunky and gracious women we had the priviledge of knowing and loving like family . Our Marc adored her, and Pa, and loved taking me to visit with them when he was able. We wish her peace and comfort in the arms of all the angels she has reunited with. Our love to all of you left behind. You are in our hearts and in our prayers.

Have been so Blessed to have gotten to know and travel with Helen and Jerry. Always enjoyed getting together with my folks and Helen for a liabation plus friendly chatter. Our parents send their condolences to Helen’s family and look forward to the day they will meet again in eternal peace. Dave and I will miss telling her our terrible jokes and her coming back with one for us. Know she was escorted to heaven with a trio of angels and Jerry was waiting there for her. We wish you all peace, comfort, and love..

To Helen’s family. Helen was a warm, enthusiastic, supportive Christian woamn. The world is a better place for her presence in it for such a long and fruitful time. She and Jerry were “pillars” at COTA. They leave a legacy of faith for the rest of us. I hope Helen smiles at us from above. Deacon Phil Yawman
