Michael B. Palmer, 72, of Hemlock, New York passed away of complications of metastasized cancer
Born in Niagara Falls, NY, Mike lived most of his life in western New York State. He was raised in Stafford and attended the Batavia Public Schools, graduating in the class of 1966. During his high school years, he was very active in varsity football, wrestling, and track and field while also enjoying downhill and water skiing. Less than three months following graduation he enlisted in the US Navy serving four years, including over two years of active duty in Vietnam. He was honorably discharged in 1970, having been awarded three service medals.
Upon returning to civilian life, he worked in the family business, Genesee Auto Supply, for several years managing stores in LeRoy and Livonia, NY. He owned and operated Mike’s Parts Plus in Livonia for many years and later worked at Crossroads Customs in Hemlock. He had a special talent and love for detailing cars, trucks and motorcycles.
Following his beloved Grandpa Art’s example, he served in the Livonia Volunteer Fire Department and had a well-known daily ritual of raising and lowering both the American and POW flags at his home.
Mike was the son of the late Charles A. and Bette Jones Palmer. He is survived by his wife, Shirley (Parsons) Palmer as well as his son, Kevin Palmer of Portland, OR, and his daughter Karrie Palmer of Prescott, AZ along with four grandsons. He also has six surviving siblings: C. Patrick Palmer of Adrian, MI; Timothy J. Palmer of Williston, VT; Duffy M. Palmer of Rochester; Shaun K. (Palmer) Francis of Bradenton, FL; Brian Q. Palmer of Batavia; and Casey A. Palmer of Stafford; and his ten nieces and nephews as well as several grand-nieces and -nephews. Mike is also survived by his very close friends Bob and Vanessa Hendrickson of Hemlock who have been very kind and helpful during his recent illnesses. He also has always loved dogs and is survived by two wonderful family members, Roscoe and Boscoe.
There will be a private military service as Mike’s remains are buried in the Palmer family plot in the Pittsford Cemetery.
Donations in his memory may be made to the kind and wonderful folks at Teresa House, 21 Highland Road, Geneseo, NY 14454, who provided Mike his final and gentle hospice care.
