Daryl C. Sullivan, 78, of Fairport NY went to be with the Lord on September 27th. He died from complications of esophageal cancer at Strong Memorial Hospital. Born in Potsdam NY, he is predeceased by his parents Raymond and Melba (Greene) Sullivan. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Mary Ann (Andre) and their three sons and two grandchildren: Sean; Aaron (Amy Treible) and grandchildren, Abi and Ray; and Brian. He is also survived by his sister, Sondra Castle (John) and nephews, John and Christopher and their families.

Daryl treasured time with family and friends, and was very close with his extended family, including multiple generations of nieces and nephews. With them, he enjoyed holiday gatherings, birthdays, trips to Disney World, and stays at the Outer Banks. He expressed himself with good-natured humor, jokey cards, and a warm countenance. He was an avid reader and enjoyed contemplating, discussing and sharing shows, movies, and computer games.

While he graduated with a degree in Electrical Engineering, sports was a bigger passion in Daryl’s life. From a hockey club at Clarkson University, playing two seasons of hockey at Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT), to 12 years as the first full-time hockey coach at RIT, landing him in the RIT Sports Hall of Fame. During summers, Daryl played and coached softball at a high level with a memorable travelling team for Pace Electronics.

Daryl made lifelong friends during his 35 years on staff at RIT where he was valued for going above and beyond to help when needed. When he retired, he was associate director of Intramurals at RIT.  Under his guidance, the intramural program expanded to the point where more than 7,000 students were participating in team and individual activities.  That represents 50 percent of the student population.

Daryl loved God and loved life and wanted everyone to know that he loved them very much.

We give him back to you, O Lord,
Who first gave him to us,
And as you did not lose him in the giving
So we so not lose him in the return.

Not as the world gives do you give, O Lord of Souls.
For what is yours is ours also,
    If we belong to you.

Life is unending because love is undying,
And the boundaries of this moral life are but any horizon,
And an horizon is but the limit of our sight.
Lift us up, Strong Son of God,
    That we may see further.

Strength us in faith, that we may see beyond the horizon.
And while you prepare a place for us, as you have promised,
Prepare us also for that happy place, that where you are we may be also, with those we have loved forever.

    May God give you,
    For every storm, a rainbow,
    For every tear, a smile,
    For every care, a promise,
And a blessing in each trial.
    For every problem life sends,
    A faithful friend to share,
For every sigh a sweet song,
And an answer for each prayer.

My hockey coach at RIT. Coach Sullivan taught by example. He gave me an experience of kindness which I have carried for 50 years and paid forward to those I coached. My thoughts go out to all those he loved.
