Helen Allen, beloved wife, mother and grandmother passed away peacefully on October 24, 2024 surrounded by her devoted family. Helen was the youngest of five children born to Luther and Helen Goodwin in Carbondale, PA. where she was a true “coal miner’s daughter”. The family moved to Rochester where Helen entered the sixth grade and met the love of her life and future husband, Bill Allen. They married on Valentine’s Day 1953 and eventually moved to Fairport where they settled down to raise their family. Helen went on to work in her husband’s insurance agency as a bookkeeper until she “retired” at the age of 50!

Helen was an avid golfer. She and Bill were long-time members of Monroe Golf Club and never turned down an invitation to enjoy a good round of golf.

After a few years of semi-retirement, Helen undertook the task of being a full-time caregiver to her beloved husband. She maintained this loving care for 17 years.

For the next 20 years Helen immersed herself in all things active; Silver Sneakers, regular rounds of golf with her “buds”, driving friends to appointments and lunches…lots of lunches! Helen lived actively and independently until the last year of her life, which she spent at the Jewish Home of Rochester in the care and loving hands of the wonderful staff.

Helen is survived by her children, Dawn (Chad), Bill, grandchildren Julie (Jason), Billy (Courtney) and preceded in death by her loving husband Bill.

Family and friends are invited to First Presbyterian Church of Pittsford, 21 Church St., Pittsford, NY 14534 on November 1, 2024 at 11:00 am for a Celebration of Helen’s Life.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Helen’s name may be made to the Jewish Home of Rochester and the Fairport Fire Department. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of the Jewish Home of Rochester. Extra-special thanks to the staff on the NBU on 4SW for their extraordinary, loving care and commitment to Helen this past year. Stephanie, Kris, Emma, Trisha, Latifa, Essence, Brian and Michael…thank you.

Helen was a very delightful, caring person to be around to play golf and enjoy lunch at Shadow Lake! She remained upbeat no matter what new problem was bothering her. She would be there every week to play golf and do her best! She kept up with us no matter what was bothering her! I will miss her! I think I might be the only one left from our 14 person golf group here in Fairport!
God bless her and take care of her happy soul! Donna Sklar
