Edward Louis Aman, age 86, of Palmyra, New York, was called home to God on February 7, 2025. Born the third of seven children to Harold J. Aman and Julia Riesenberger Aman, Ed grew up on a dairy farm in Penfield, New York, where he learned the values of hard work and family. He is preceded in death by his brothers, John Aman (wife, Barbara) and Leo Aman (wife, Marian). He is survived by his sisters, Ann Keegan (husband, Thomas), Ruth Boyle (husband, Richard), Margaret Ludwig (husband, Timothy), and his youngest brother, Reverend Jerry Aman, SJ.

Ed pursued higher education after leaving the farm, earning a degree in political science from Le Moyne College, followed by a master’s degree in education from SUNY Albany. He began his teaching career at Otego Central School, where he would meet his future wife, Kathryn L. Aman (of Belmont, New York). They married in 1968 after a chance meeting when Kay, a student teacher in the district and devout Catholic, sought a ride to church. Ed kindly offered to take her and her roommate to Mass, a gesture that quickly bloomed into what was to become their lifelong love affair. They were married for 56 years, attending church together every Sunday, regardless of life’s challenges.

Ed later worked at American Can and Eastman Kodak.  Throughout the challenges of his life, Ed remained a man of resounding faith and commitment to his family. Ed’s love of life was evident in his wide smile and one liner wit. For over 55 years, Ed cultivated a deep passion for gardening at his family home. His connection to the land, and the lessons of his youth on the farm, remained a constant in his life. As the saying goes, “You can take the boy from the farm, but you can’t take the farm out of the boy.”

In addition to his beloved wife, Kathryn, Ed is survived by his children: Andrew Edward Aman of Palmyra, Eric Edward Aman (wife, Heather) of Seattle, Julia Kay Aman (husband, Jean Claude) of Seattle, and Jeryl Edward Aman (wife, Megan) of Minneapolis. He was the proud grandfather of seven grandchildren: Kiera Grace and Owen Edward Aman of Seattle; Adelaide Marie and Maisie Loretta Aman of Minneapolis; and Eva Aman Letourneau, Leo Aman Letourneau, and Olive Aman Letourneau of Seattle. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, neighbors, and friends, particularly those from his church community, who were an instrumental part of his life.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude for the love and support they have received during this time.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to:

Amyloidosis Foundation  7151 N Main St #2 Village of Clarkson, MI 48346.

Ed will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but his legacy of kindness, faith, and love of family and community will continue to live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him.  Ed’s presence will be everblooming in his grandest garden that is his family.

Funeral Mass Thursday February 20, 2025 11AM at Church of the Resurrection 63 Mason Road, Fairport.

    Dear Andy and Julia,
I’m so sorry to hear of your dear Dad’s passing. While I did not know him personally, I am not at all surprised to read your wonderful Dad’s obituary as he obviously had a huge role in shaping such amazing children. I thoroughly enjoyed being your English Teacher at Pal Mac HS many years ago. You two were among my very best students and you both left your marks in my memory for your excellent participation in class and your outstanding writing. No surprise that your wonderful characters were shaped by such a warm and loving family including your Dad. My sincere condolences go out to you both and your entire family. God bless and much love. Sending love with our prayers,
    Jane and Gerry

  6. Ed, thought about him often since Kodak days. Remembered as both kind and helpful. He earned a nickname of ‘dancing bear’ during machine disruptions. He and I both gardeners enjoyed conversations sharing knowledge and tips. Sincere condolences to the family and all who were privileged to know him.
