John S. Archibald

July 15, 1940 – January 31, 2026

John, lovingly known as “Jack” or “Archie”, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 31, 2026. He  met his Lord surrounded by his devoted family.

Jack was predeceased by siblings Suzanne Pearl Stanton, David Alexander Archibald, and stepbrother  Craig Van Vessem as well as his beloved mother, La Vera Smith, and stepfather James Van Vessem.

Jack loved life, never taking a moment for granted. He was a gifted storyteller, and always made people  feel as though they were part of the family from the first moment he met you. Jack proudly served his  country as an Army Sergeant, receiving an honorable discharge in 1964. After returning from the army,  he started his nearly 50 years career at Eastman Kodak Company. Throughout his career, he had the  opportunity to travel the world three times over meeting interesting people, experiencing global  cultures, and making treasured friends.

Jack is survived by his wife of 55 years, Kathleen. With the loving support of his wife he obtained his  degree from Rochester Institute of Technology while working and starting a family of two daughters,  Michelle Archibald and Robyn Broomfield (Michael). He loved being a father, and this love grew when his  family expanded to include his son-in-law, Michael and by extension the Broomfield family. Through his  daughter, Robyn, he was blessed with two beautiful granddaughters, Madison and Mackenzie  Broomfield. His love for his family was beyond measure, and he expressed his pride to anyone who  crossed his path. He is survived by many cherished generations of nephews and nieces who truly loved  their “Uncle Jack”. He leaves behind numerous friends and colleagues whom he respected and loved  dearly.

Jack fought CLL for over 20 years. The Archibald/Broomfield family would like to express their deepest  appreciation to all of his many caregivers. Specifically, Dr. Vaules, Dr. Zent, Sharon L., and Dr. Prasad,  because of you we had 10 years of “bonus” memories and milestones.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the JFR Jr. Memorial Foundation, P.O. BOX 1005, Geneva, NY,  14456. Nothing was more important to Jack than family. Family is the heart of the JFR Jr. Memorial  Foundation’s mission which provides for those impacted by leukemia as well as other cancers. He  supported this organization as it was established in memory of the cousin of his son in law, Michael  Broomfield, whom he loved dearly.

Family and Friends are invited to gather in celebration of Jack’s life at The All Seasons Chapel at White Haven Memorial Park on Marsh Rd in Pittsford, NY on Friday, February 27, 2026 from 1 to 2 followed by a reception at American Legion Post 942 in Webster, NY.

  10. Jack was a good friend to many of us who worked with him at Kodak through the years, and was a frequent attendee at our monthly retirees’ luncheon where we’d swap stories and news of others. Jack always had a wry smile and twinkle in his eye with his delivery of any news or anecdote…. He was highly respected and will be sorely missed by all of us.

  11. I first met Jack in 1986 when I joined ‘Reprographics’ and became a ‘reprobate’. He taught me so much about the business over the years. We went on several business trips in his territories that he always drove to in his very cold car (in order to stay awake). He will be sorely missed. My sincere condolences to his family.

  16. Jack was one of the finest mentors and friend I have met in my lifetime. I had the pleasure of working with him from 1990-97, listening and learning from him. He was a class act, everyone loved Jack. I think of him often to this day on many of the things he taught me in my 30’s and have passed some of those lessons to my son, as they are valuable, so his legacy lives on in many ways. He will never be forgotten, and the great times we had will always stand out in my memory of him. He was a great kind man and loved life. Rest in peace Arch! 🙏

  17. Jack was not only a mentor to me but a best friend for over 30 years. We traveled the US together for Kodak and had so many memories. I owe a lot to Arch. My life is better for knowing him. He was the kindest and most caring person I have ever met and I will miss him dearly.
