Margaret “Maureen” Ryan Aronna, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away surrounded by family on June 22, 2024, at the age of 84. Maureen was the eldest of three children to the late Bridget (“Bridie”) and Timothy Ryan. She was raised in a family that instilled in her strong values of compassion, work ethic, resilience, and unwavering love. She spent her early years in Queens before moving to Smithtown, retired to Florida, and eventually settling in Fairport, New York.
In 1971, Maureen married the love of her life, John Aronna, and they shared 53 wonderful years together. Their union was a testament to enduring the best of times, the worst of times, unconditional love, and mutual respect. Together, they raised five children, Donna, Maureen, Wally, Bridget, and Shawna. Her boundless love and support were a constant source of strength and comfort to her family.
After being a homemaker for many years, Maureen initially worked as a nurse’s aide and later a government employee with the Internal Revenue Service.
Maureen’s greatest joy in life was her family, spending time at the beach, quilting, scrapbooking, reading, and her fur babies Molly and Shirley. She cherished her role as a grandmother to her grandchildren cheering them on near and far. She loved all kinds of music (especially Barbara Streisand and Tina Turner) and enjoyed going to concerts and Broadway shows. Raised Irish Catholic, Maureen’s faith was a cornerstone of her life, guiding her through times of joy and sorrow with grace and dignity.
Maureen had a passion for good food, travel, and adventure, embarking on road trips and cruises. with her husband and friends. She had a keen interest in her Irish heritage and American politics.
Maureen is survived by her loving husband, her children, her grandchildren, her siblings, and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, Bridie and Timothy, and her son, Wally.
Maureen’s legacy is one of love, laughter, kindness, and dedication to family and community. She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her spirit will live on in the hearts of those she touched.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
