Theresa A. Aroune of Fairport, NY, formerly Orchard Park, NY, passed away November 24, 2024 at age 89.
Born in South Buffalo, NY August 14, 1935, the ninth of 12 children to Patrick Maroney and Nora (O’Dea) Maroney, Theresa lived a life devoted to her family that was rich in faith and love. Theresa was a devoted parishioner at Church of the Resurrection in Fairport, and, before that, a foundational member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Rush, NY for 30 years, where she led pre cana and social ministry programs and served as a eucharistic minister.
Theresa’s mastery of the kitchen led her to leadership roles in school cafeterias prior to her retirement; most recently at Brighton Twelve Corners Middle School and, prior to that, in the Orchard Park (NY) Central School district.
Prior to starting her family, she worked as an administrative assistant in several offices, including AMF in Buffalo, where she was assigned to manage top secret government paperwork for the federal government’s U.S. space program.
As a teen, Theresa worked at Children’s Hospital in Buffalo as a “candy striper,” helping pregnant women as they prepared to give birth.
A lover of people and community, she loved to be social, whether in prayer groups, bowling leagues, ceramics classes, or the card games and cornhole evenings she shared with neighbors, whether in West Henrietta, where she lived for 30 years, or, at her last residence, Village Heights, in Fairport.
Theresa was an exceptional writer whose notes and expressions penned for generations of family and friends remain the messages of love and support by which people knew her.
She was a dancer to be envied whose days on the dance floor began as a youth at the Buffalo Irish Center and at her parent’s favorite neighborhood haunt, Nelle Doherty’s. For all the gentlemen lucky enough to cut a rug with her, no one swept her off her feet like her husband of 69 years.
Theresa is survived by her devoted husband, James V. Aroune of Blasdell, NY. She cherished the travel, sightseeing, picnics, and simple moments they enjoyed; from the waterfront concerts they tapped their toes to on Conesus Lake and Lake Ontario, to the family vacations they would share with their four sons at Allegany State Park and, later, with their families, at campgrounds in the Southern Tier.
She is survived by James C. Aroune and his wife Sara O’Neill-Aroune , (Catherine (Gabe) Klemick, Clare, Caroline), Patrick M. Aroune and his wife Nancy Neiman (Grace, Joshua, Lydia, Norah, Dean and Chrissy) David and Laura (Royce) Aroune (Thomas (Sarah), Nicholas (Erica), Elizabeth (Travis) Pullis, Amy (Bill) Hemmer, and Hannah,) Paul and Mary Lou (Meaker) Aroune (Ellen (Will) Raimondo, Mary Margaret.)
Theresa also dearly loved her three great-grandchildren Layla, Margaret and Jack.
She is survived by her sister Eileen (Wirth.) Theresa was preceded in death by seven sisters and three brothers: Thomas Maroney, Margaret Landy, Catherine Carducci, Norah Mett, Mary Jost, Betty Smith, Ann Kazielski, Agnes Maroney, Jack Maroney and Patrick Maroney
