Edward “Ted” Ashe September 27th, 1950 – September 28th, 2025

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Edward “Ted” Ashe, who departed this life on September 28, 2025, at the age of 75 in Fairport, NY. Ted was born on September 27th, 1950 in Ballston Spa, NY. He was a devoted father, grandfather, brother, and friend whose warmth, humor, and love of life touched everyone who had the pleasure of meeting him.

Ted is survived by his son Stephen (Amy) Ashe, and their children Emily(fiancé Peter Petrillo) and Kyle; his daughter Elizabeth (Ryan) Redd, and their sons Carson and Brendan. He is also survived by his sister Jerry (Joe) Teresi, and many nieces and nephews. Ted was predeceased by his parents Jeremiah W. Ashe and Anne M. Ashe Smith, his sister Sibyl Anne Philo, and his beloved cats, Pork Chop 1 and Pork Chop 2.

Ted was a graduate of Burnt Hills High School, and continued his education graduating with a bachelors degree in English from the University of Albany. He followed in his father’s footsteps and began his career at the Albany Times Union shortly after graduation. Within a few years he took a position as a Circulation Director with Gannett where he stayed for many years. Ted was instrumental in establishing the USA Today in his time at Gannett. 

His time at Gannett ended and he took a position with the Daily Local News in West Chester, PA where he would end his newspaper career. This prompted a transition to the automotive industry where he worked as a finance manager until his retirement in 2021. During the time Ted spent in West Chester, PA and throughout his professional career, he made many friends whom he considered family. Following his retirement, Ted moved to Fairport, NY to be closer to his family. 

After moving to Fairport, Ted was lovingly cared for by his local family and embraced by the entire Weichman family. They welcomed him with open arms and treated him as one of their own. Their kindness, inclusion, and love brought great comfort and joy to his later years.  

Outside of work, Teds greatest joy was spending time with both friends and family. He had a love of knowledge and a way with words, both written and spoken. He also loved the New York Times crossword puzzles, Jeopardy, and daily Wordle competitions with his sister. Ted cherished Thursday night trivia, where he proudly played and found great success as a one man team. He had a vast book collection and many personal poems that he wrote. Ted found it easier to express his feelings through his writing, and often composed heartfelt letters or poems to those who were important to him. Just a few short weeks ago he completed his bucket list with a trip to Ireland with his children, to explore their family heritage.

He was a mentor, a source of comfort, and a deeply respected elder whose wisdom and knowledge were generously shared. His empathy, kindness, and warm heart left a lasting impact on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. His legacy lives on in cherished memories, in music, in his famous Christmas fruit cakes, and in the beauty of his written words.

Friends and family are invited to call between the hours of 11:00 am and 1:00 pm on Saturday October 11th at Richard H. Keenan Funeral Home, 7501 Pittsford-Palmyra Road, Fairport, New York 14450. There will be a celebration of life for close friends and family following the calling hours at Blitz Bar Room. 

Ted will be deeply missed, but his spirit, love, and quick wit will always remain within his children and grandchildren.
