BAILEY, Eugene J., affectionately known as Gene to his friends and family, passed away on August 6, 2024, in Rochester, NY, at the age of 88 due to complications from cancer.  Born on March 15, 1936, Gene was a beacon of light to those who knew him, embodying the virtues of a faith-filled, loving and selfless individual throughout his life.

Gene grew up in Rochester and graduated from Aquinas High School and Saint John Fisher College.  He was an Army Veteran and a long-time employee of Xerox.

Family was the cornerstone of Gene’s life and he will be greatly missed by his beloved wife, Bonnie Thomas of Fairport, NY, his daughters Maureen (Stephen) Counihan of Reading, MA; Colleen (Derek) Cheshire of St. Augustine, FL; Katie (Adam) Womack of Cypress, TX; his sons Kevin (Marla) Bailey of Prescott, AZ; Michael (Bonny) Bailey of Pasadena, CA; and the grandchildren and great grandchildren who adored him. Gene was preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Marie (Fitzpatrick), his son, Christopher and his daughter, Elizabeth. 

Gene’s Funeral Service will be held at the Church of the Assumption, 20 East Avenue, Fairport, NY, on August 13, 2024, at 10:00 a.m.  In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Gene’s name to the Perinton Ambulance Corp.

    Gene was truly one of the best people I’ve ever known. He was an amazing neighbor & friend to me for 20+ years and he will be deeply missed. Sincere condolences to his family.

    I met Gene at Brad Watsons. He was a gentle spirit and a neat guy to be around. When ever I was at Brad’s I would always inquire about Gene..

    I worked with Gene at Xerox in the Temple Building in the mid to late 1960’s. We had very high pressure jobs with very long hours but Gene made it fun. A real fine gentleman and great co-worker. My deepest sorrow to his family.
