We are heartbroken to announce the passing of David Balcer, who left us on July 28, 2025 at the age of 72.  He was a devoted husband, father, proud grandfather and cherished friend!

Dave was predeceased by his father, Edward Balcer and his mother, Mary Corlett.

He is survived by his loving wife, Gwynne Balcer, his 5 children: Shawn Balcer (Brooks), Evan Lang (Lisa), Heather Balcer (Steve Giliberti), Amanda Agostini (Andrew), and Brian Lang (Brittany) , his 13 grandchildren: Kinsley, Emery, Noa, Wyatt, Austin, Nolan, Grace, Amelia, Luca, Nora, Abel, Esme, and Bo, his sister, Barbara Tagliarino, and several nieces and nephews.

Dave lived a life full of quiet joy, outdoor adventures, and the kind of humor that snuck up on you and stayed with you.  He found his greatest happiness in being a grandpa.  Whether it was cheering from the sidelines, sharing stories, or simply spending time with his grandchildren.  Dave’s love for them was boundless!

Dave was an avid outdoorsman and felt most at peace out in nature.  He spent countless hours hunting, fishing, boating, and golfing and always with a calm spirit and a twinkle in his eye.  But perhaps nothing brought him more comfort than the company of his dogs (labrador retrievers) Ebony, Cody, Bella and Bailey, who were by his side throughout it all!

Dave’s sense of humor was subtle and clever, often catching you off guard and leaving you laughing long after the moment passed.  He had a way of making people feel at ease.  His presence was a quiet but steady source of warmth.

Dave had a fulfilling career and a great work ethic.  He worked at Eastman Kodak Company for 19 years, PetSmart (as a facilities manager), and retired from Lyndonville Central School District as the Director of Facilities.

His legacy will live on in his 13 grandchildren, who will carry his stories, laughter, and love forward!  Dave  will be deeply missed and forever remembered!!

  1. On behalf of Eastridge Class of 1972 know that we lift you up in the healing light as you mourn your profound loss many of us share in. When I came across David’s obituary I could see that flash of red hair, ever present smile and remember his sense of humor. Back in those days we merged together from our elementary schools to be a class of over 500 at Ridgewood Junior High which is now Wegmans. We had the opportunity to make many new friends. Since there were over 500 of us it was impossible to get to know each other. Though not close, many stood out, like David. Our classmate, Gene Gammiero, contacted me to say he recognized him wondering if I did. It is amazing that as many of us are in our seventies the sweet faces of those days shine through into adulthood. Reading David’s obit and seeing your heartfelt family photos it is evident he lived a happy life devoted to all of you. I am confident you will pay his lessons forward to future generations. How blessed to have 13 grandchildren. I have 6. May your now even more treasured memories bring you joy. May you find comfort knowing that when the Class of 1972 gathers his name will be in our class memorial as is our custom. Once a Lancer always Lancer family. RIP. “Unable are the loved to die for love is immortality.” (Emily Dickinson) Fondly remembered, Donna LaTour-Bergen
