Scott Baxter passed away suddenly of heart failure on October 22. He was 34 years old.
Scott is survived by many family members including his parents, JoAnne and Dennis Baxter, residing at 32 Ridgeview Drive, East Rochester, NY, 14445; his twin sister, Aimee; grandparents, Nancy and Andrew Trabold; and too many aunts, uncles, and cousins to list.
Scott was born on September 21, 1982 and raised in East Rochester, N.Y. He was extremely smart and even more intellectually curious. He was a member of Master Minds and was named to the Master Minds All-Star team. His interest in this activity led him to try out for Jeopardy in Boston, Massachusetts his junior year. Scott graduated in the top ten percent of his high school class.
Scott’s real and abiding passion was sports. He played soccer, baseball, and basketball as a young boy and played on both the varsity baseball and basketball teams in high school. At 6 feet, 5 ¾ inches, he was a formidable force under the boards. Scott was awarded the Most Improved Player on his basketball team his senior year.
In addition to playing sports, Scott also loved to watch and follow sports. Although Scott never had the opportunity to fulfill his dream of attending a Notre Dame football game in South Bend, Indiana, he was able to watch his beloved Yankees at both the old and new Yankee Stadiums.
His love of sports coupled with his ability to memorize facts made him a walking-talking encyclopedia of sports knowledge. No sport fact was too obscure for Scott: the order in which a particular football or basketball player was drafted; statistical leaders for every category in every sport; and which team in any sport won the championship in any given year.
Scott also used this encyclopedic knowledge for movies as well. He could name every academy award winner in every single category. Scott was the ideal person to watch a movie with for those times when someone asked: “What’s that actor been in again?” Scott would then proceed to identify every starring and minor role of that particular performer.
Visiting hours will be held at Keenan Funeral Home located at 7501 Pittsford-Palmyra Road, Fairport (Egypt location), on Thursday, October 27 from 4:00-7:00 p.m. and a service will follow at 7:00 p.m.
All are welcome to attend as we mourn the passing of someone taken too soon and to celebrate the life of this loving, funny soul.
