Edward Earl Bortle

March 10, 1943 – October 25, 2024

Reverend Edward E. Bortle, a beloved Assembly of God pastor, U.S. Army veteran, and cherished family man, passed away peacefully on October 25, 2024, at the age of 81. Known by all as a wholesome man of devout faith, he lived a life devoted to serving others and the Lord.

Born on March 10, 1943, in Rochester, NY, and raised in Fairport, NY, Reverend Bortle grew up with a strong sense of duty and faith. In 1968, he answered the call to serve his country, enlisting in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He served honorably until 1971, and his courage and dedication earned him the respect of his fellow soldiers and laid the foundation for a lifetime of service to others.

After his military service, Edward returned to New York and began a long career as a skilled cabinet maker. He worked for Wegmans for approximately 40 years, where his craftsmanship and attention to detail were widely admired. Although he was ordained in 2022, Reverend Bortle had spent his entire life sharing the love of Christ. Over the years, he and his wife participated in missions to several countries, sharing hope and healing to those in need.

Edward Bortle is survived by his loving bride, Rosmarie Bortle, and his children: Eddie (JR) (Jennifer), Jennifer, and Andy (Karin). He was a proud “Pops” to his grandchildren: Evie Rose, Lillian, Noah, Alli Rose, and Alex.

Calling hours will be held Sunday, November 3 from 4:00-7:00pm at Richard H. Keenan Funeral Home: 7501 Pittsford-Palmyra Road, Fairport, NY 14450. A celebration of life service will be held at New Life Assembly of God: 7608 Rte 31, Lyons, NY 14489 on Monday, November 4 at 1:30 pm. Although I did not know Ed well, every time we were blessed to spend time with him he was a gentle, Godly man. May the God of all Comfort, comfort Rose, the family and Church he served during his life.
