Our mom, Sue Briggs, passed away peacefully on Saturday May 8th. We were with her in her final hours and Molly was holding her hand at the end.

Mom, aka Ma B and Nana, was born and raised in Brighton, NY.  She graduated in 3 years with a BA from the University of Rochester. Soon thereafter she had her hands full with young children. After separating from her husband in the 1970’s, she returned to school and began working full time while raising her three kids.  She was a devoted mother and grandmother and loved nothing more than vacationing with family. Her fondest memories were the extended family fishing trips to Wolfe Island in the St. Lawrence.   She was avid reader and was always involved with different book clubs. She cherished her friends and was always very social. From early on, her friends became our friends and our friends became her friends, there are not many people who can say that about a parent.

She is survived by her children Dan Briggs (Lori King), Tracy Briggs (Robert Minnick), Molly Briggs and her granddaughters Zena, Claire, Claudia & Marisol.

Calling Hours Friday August 13, 4-6PM at the Richard H. Keenan Funeral Home (Village Location) 41 South Main Street, Fairport.  Please join us for a reception after Calling Hours in Fairport. Funeral Service Saturday August 14, 10AM at White Haven All Seasons Chapel, Pittsford.

Mom very much loved her pets, so in lieu of flowers, donations to your local ASPCA are always encouraged and appreciated.

    To Susan’s children:
I knew”Susie” back in our U. of R. days when she roomed with Barb Seligman Ruben. Sue was a fun and fun-loving friend with whom I enjoyed countless hours of gossip and good humor, mixed in with some serious study hours. She knew how to combine academics with social life, and I benefitted from both sides of her generous spirit, even being a frequent visitor at the O’Brien’s home in Brighton. I had only infrequent meetings with Sue after we graduated, mostly at GEVA Theater matinees on Sundays. She still sparkled and emanated her warm personality. I know that you will miss her deeply. Sincere sympathy for your loss. Patricia VanKouwenberg, nee Patti Cullen, U.R.’58

So many memories and stories from Fairport Manor days to fun at Mason Road and Oxford Street and full circle back to Fairport…football Sundays, movies anytime and anywhere, dinners, drinks, conversations (Sue always made you think), and always laughter…lots and lots of laughter.
Ma B became Sue somewhere along the way as she morphed into our friend as much as my best friend’s Mom.
We have missed her and we will be sorry to miss her “send-off” but we will raise our glasses in her honor on Friday.
    Xo from across the miles.
