Robert Alan Buhrman passed away peacefully April 13, 2021, at Highland Hospital in Rochester, NY, at the age of 75, with family by his side.
Bob was a much-loved and devoted husband, father, Papa, teacher, mentor, and colleague. He was born on April 24, 1945 in Waynesboro, PA and grew up on the family farm in Smithsburg, MD. He had a long and distinguished career as a professor of applied and engineering physics at Cornell University, and served in many administrative positions at Cornell, including ten years as senior vice provost for research. Those who knew him will miss his wisdom and wit.
He was predeceased by his parents, Theodore Favorite Buhrman and Helen Willard Buhrman, his brother Jerold, and his stepmother Mildred Buhrman. He is survived by his wife Karen, daughters Kristina and Susannah (husband Aaron), son John (wife Joslin), five grandchildren (Noah, James, Robert, Abigail, and Margaret), brother Donald (wife Dianna), and Jerold’s wife, Anna Mae.
Interment will be private. A celebration of life will be held at a later date in Ithaca, NY. If desired, memorial contributions can be made to the Wilmot Cancer Institute in Rochester, NY.
