Predeceased by her husband of 61 years, Vincent “Jim” Ciulla; parents, Roy S Backes and Gertrude Backes; children, David F Ciulla and Kathleen M Ciulla.
Survived by her daughters and sons in law: Jean Ciulla (Ray Schlitzer); Anne (Richard) Romano.
Grandchildren: James Olek, Jr (Lisa Strylowski), Jonathan Olek, Andrew (Kaitlin) Olek, Nicholas (Ashley) Romano, Thomas (Joanna) Romano.
Great-Grandchildren: Lucy, Liliana, Alexander, Vincent, Dominic, Emilia, Gio
Mary Ann died one day before her 95th birthday. She earned her BA-MEd at Nazareth University in Rochester, NY. She taught reading locally for several years. She was co-owner of the Silk Forest in Danville, CA, founder of the Blackhawk Women’s Club. Mary Ann was a past president of the AAUW in Rochester, NY, member of the Penfield Art Association and Perinton Painters.
Painting was her joy in retirement, she volunteered in community and church groups in all the cities where she lived.
Funeral Mass on Saturday, May 11, 2024, 12:00 PM at St. John of Rochester Church, 8 Wickford Way, Fairport, NY 14450. Internment to follow at White Haven Memorial Park, 210 Marsh Rd., Pittsford, NY 14534.

I have so many wonderful memories of Mary Ann…a kind and gracious woman. We worked together in Rush Henrietta where our friendship began.
