Cole, Judith “Judy”

Judith (“Judy”) L. (Hunt) Cole, 90, of Fairport, NY passed away on Thursday, September 20, 2018 in Rochester, NY. Judy was born in Brockton, MA on November 28, 1927, the daughter of Edward T. Hunt and Mildred (Sprague) Hunt.  Judy was predeceased by her parents and by her husband, Lawrence (Larry) C. Cole.

Judy lived a long and interesting life. She was a loving, caring and understanding mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who told the best stories (even if they were repeated on occasion!).  She graduated from East Bridgewater (MA) High School in 1945.  Her work life was long and varied – her first job was delivering the Brockton Enterprise when she was a young teenager. She worked for Ruth Wakefield, the originator of the Tollhouse chocolate chip cookie, at the Toll House Inn Restaurant in Whitman, MA, as a teacher aide in schools in Middleborough, MA and Searsport, Maine, tried a brief stint as a restaurant owner on an island in Maine and then worked many years as a legal secretary in Belfast, Maine until her retirement.  Judy moved to Fairport, NY in 2003 and enjoyed all the area had to offer. She lived life to the fullest in her last years – participating in classes at the RIT Athenaeum, going to book club and singing in a local chorus. Judy was the “Google Queen” of her group, finding answers online to questions from  her friends and neighbors and was very “tech savvy” – doing everything from reading and playing games on her computer and Kindle to conversing daily with “Alexa” and watching Netflix on Roku TV.

She is survived by her son, Lawrence T. (Terry) Cole and his wife, Jeralyn (Jeri) Cole of Stockton Springs, Maine and her daughter, Heather L. (Cole) Tucker and her husband, Richard Tucker of Hartland, Maine, as well as by her grandchildren, Melissa (Cole) Howard and her husband Chad, Amanda (Cole) Reynolds and her husband, Peter, Matthew Dubois and his wife Mary Ann and Zachary Dubois as well as two step-grandchildren, Hannah Brown and Daniel Tucker. Also surviving Judy are her great-grandchildren Cassandra Howard, Noah Howard, Emma Reynolds, Wesley Reynolds, Elena Reynolds and the newest member of the family, Griffin Dubois who she was so happy and proud to meet this summer.

Judy also leaves behind a great number of wonderful friends and neighbors, too numerous to list here, who helped and cared for each other, enjoyed Monday Scrabble and Saturday movies together and to whom Judy’s family is especially grateful and thankful.

In accord with Judy’s wishes, services will be private.  Arrangements are by Richard H. Keenan Funeral Home.

Heather, I was saddened to read of your mom’s passing. She and I had so many lunches together when we were “working gals” across from each other on Market St in Belfast. I wish you and the “boyz” peace and comfort in the coming days and months. All my love, as always, Joye and Maynard.Buck
